Houston Smackdown Round 3 is in the planning Stage

I just wanted to announce Houston Smackdown Round 3 will be held at:

Stephen F. Austin High School, Houston, TX

Currently there are two tentative dates because of our busy May calendar. The two possible dates are Friday, May 6th and Friday, May 13th. We are trying to avoid running into any schools that may have prom that night as well as we usually go out of town in early May.

The difference with Round 3 is that it will be a

FLOOR SHOW

So each band will be given 12 minutes to do formations, dance routine, drum feature or whatever they desire.

The current list is:

Westbury

Worthing

Yates

Sam Houston

and of course Austin.

Alternate choices in case one of the bands above cant go will be

1st choice

Davis (awaiting confirmation but we will try our best to accomodate you guys)

2nd choice

Jones

3rd choice

Madison

Choices were done in order that the bands submitted communication as intent to participate. After the floor show, we will do 2-3 Rounds of Music.

I just wanted to try something different with the floor show idea. I know Rounds 1 and 2 were GREAT but I didnt really want to bore the crowds.

And the bands werent chosen, they were placed on the list in the order that they expressed they wanted to participate. I wasnt trying to push or keep anyone out. I wish we did have more room but with a floor show, we an only fit 5-6 bands max for the full out performance.

The venue is difficult to choose a large place due to money. Know what though: Im really going to look into getting TSU's HPE arena. If we can get Barnett Fieldhouse or TXSU then everybody can come. I promise you guys I will try my best but no promises because we all know money talks.

4. Since other bands were never invited to any round (Royal, Sterling), should we exclude them or find a bigger venue to host round 3 (TSU)?

I know that it is difficult to accommodate all requests, but inquiring minds want to know.

This definitely will add an opportunity to showcase a bit more variety. Cant wait to see every1s creative approach to this Round of SmackDown.

2. Does the host band invite whom they want to, or should it be the best bands from 1 and 2, invited to 3?

3. Is the host band allowed to change the format? I would love to host a smackdown next year.

Im glad to see something like this for the high schools....gives the students something to desire and be proud of. Makes the students perfect their craft and their passion for marching bands continues to grow with each Smackdown
