so very true.......THATS whay I dont see why folks get up set when I tell the truth...to me thats the start of a sorry band when the director lies to the children....I say Tell them little folks they sound bad why they sound bad..what they can do to fix the bad sound and tell them what will happen the next time they sound like that...Man I miss those days........I say BRINg BACK THE OLD SCHOOL RULES...BECAUSE SOONER OR LATER..A LARGE BAND Is GONA BE CONSIDERED 25 FOLKS ANd A SMALL WILL BE 12........

all we need is a better support for music in our education system...a youth convention for music...summer classes..programs with music...all e need is money but aint nobody tryin to help out..if it wasnt for music...how would you ride to work...have sex...listen to movies..itd be dumb...and another thing there are too many damn things in school what happend to band sports then like year book..now theres every little thing and when did gay become acceptable...hell to the naw that shit aint cool by no means..band is reflecting society and its really sad how far we have dropped as a nation
I blame the admins for trying to rid the schools of the music programs first and foremost. How can they talk about forming a well rounded curriculum for well rounded kids when they are trying to take away from it. "Well rounded" isn't only about reading, writing, and arithemetic.
Then I blame the obsessive diaper sniffers, who think their kids can do no wrong, and the people who support such foolishness. A little discipline goes a long way...and extracurricular activities (such as marching band) keeps kids off the streets and out of trouble. Texas CAN be known for football AND bands....
Then we want to talk about the kids being unmotivated and not wanting to participate.
There's only so much a teacher can do. Their hands are tied more than you know. And the decent ones feel your frustrations 150%....trust me.

i feel where u comin from but sometimes its the parents fault too they try to keep their children from doing things that will benefit them in the future but they look at it as that its a waste of time and money....and that it wont get them nowhere...sometimes we have to work together as one to solve a problem not everyone is gonna be perfect,....
houston wake up

It's going to come down to people in the community stepping up like TxSU and the Allstar bands. The School District hs given up on Music programs as evidenced by the lack of music in alot of middle schools. Therefore the foundation is absent so by the time people make it to highschool they are well behind the curve and/or lack interest. So I really appreciate what the people at Texas Southern are doing.
true but at the same time marchin band isnt everything...music is what im talkin bout also not just marching band i mean yea we love it but lets face it...back then ppl were good at both..now its one or the other..and there not nearly as good as they used to be...so that leads me to believe you need both to just be the way we were...tsu does have jazz worshops and concert band shops and the all star band..but which one do you hear most of...i think it will take reform and more emphasis on concert music to get the skills of the players...anyone can play..but who can do it and sound good...do yall see what im gettin at?
