The tilte alone says it self. If your band plays concert music congrats thats a real band program. Majority of these young directors are so concern of blasting & sound like pure mess. If you can play Concert Music, this Pop Tune Sh!t will be nothin"-A.Barrino. Mr. Barino of GSU is correct. So if you band plays concert music then list those concert selections. Be honest...

Yeah it doesnt hurt to be well rounded. My concert band in High skool was playing AA music at festivals. I was playing Carnival of Venice out of the Arbans book for solo festival, so everything else came a lil easy EXCEPT JAZZ! You really have to feel it to play JAZZ...to solo at it. Classical does help you intonation, balance/blend, articulation..............
BUT why to we say that the white mans music(classical) is the top music and ours is not, when our people were the first peoples on the earth to make music? We made Opera, the italians stole it from egypt, we also made Jazz, blues, ragtime, rock n roll, Funk, R&B. Some of the BEST classical musicians can play Jazz. These styles of music can help your musicianship also.
Jus so tired of living by THEIR standards, we must set our OWN! That's why I love this sport...cuz it's ours and they cant do it!!!!!!! (their trying tho!!)

I feel you cuz we have a totally different genre of music in hbcu bands but dci bands can do sum pretty amazing things with their sound and they can get really loud with control.
