Yes, that is correct... As a former member of "The Dynamic Twirling Sensations" of JSU (2001-04) and now a current member of the alumni Dynamic Twirling Sensations, auditions are in planning for the selection of twirler(s) for the 2016-17 performance season.
There are potential candidates that express their interest season after season to serve as twirler, but there have not been any candidates with the required ability, skill, par, and overall performance standard to serve within the position... The current band staff is looking for the alumni twirlers to assist in the audition process this season, as to the level of skill and requirements that are needed to select potential candidates; the university's policy is being followed for proper interest announcements for all interested/ enrolled JSU students.
Right... I have had previous conversations with the band directors and it was stated that they are planning for the return of the twirlers... The twirlers were "never disbanded" as many may believe or the rumor mills may have delivered... There have not been any qualified candidates to fill the position(s)... The JSU Twirlers are known to be the best in the SWAC, in black colleges periods... The band directors and alumni twirlers believe that standard should continue to be upheld, and just placing someone in the position just cause is not an option.
Yes, Alcorn has not had any twirlers since 2013, and Dr. Murray is a stickler for a level of high performance and skill from his twirlers as well, no different than when he served as band director at JSU.

Let's hope so. JSU and ASU haven't had them in a while.
Is Jackson State Univ Getting Twirlers Next year?????
I saw some post where it said that they are allowing them to audition, how true is this?
Yes JSU always had amazing twirlers. ASUs last good batch was back in the early 2000s and everything after that was uuuummmm, yeah.

I agree... Sherry Ware was a twirler at Alcorn, during my years twirling in the Boom... She was awesome and the young ladies that twirled with her were just as skilled.

I love the twirlers on the field. They add so much to the show. I am not a fan of them throwing counts in the stands though.
