Just a simple question, im not saying any names, and no im not trying to start any mess but im trying to find out why some high school and college band directors letting their whole trumpet section scream through a whole song. Don't get me wrong I love it when people scream but after a while when they do it too much it gets REALLY annoying and you just want to hear them play the song not rape your ears.

It Really Does depend on the song...Ima use Hay In The Middle Of The Barn for example...what makes that songs is Mellos hitting high C and Trumpets who can hit the High G... but i dont see why the whole section needs to scream...(scratches my head)....Ill accept Screaming through the whole song but only if like out of 8 trumpets, 2 of them play Altissimo Range...out of 5 or 6 mellos...split it up. need both Octaves so that way instead of all Treble sound...you get a bass sound in the lower octave.
then my next example is In The Stone by EWF....just cant scream the whole time...too many accidentals, then worry about dynamics and articulation.
Then you have your songs that consist of many Cords....Freddy is having a Nightmare...need someone on top to finish the Cord!!!
Thank you! I don't want the WHOLE scetion to scream just half and half. I don't want to leave the game with a ear-splitting headache!

Is screaming through a whole song really necessary?

The only thing I would change is the distribution of the parts among the section so it can be equal and stop everyone "attempting" to scream. If there is no foundation, the sound will not reach the other side of the field!!!!

Personally I am not fond of hearing screaming throughout a song. Like everything in life, screaming has its time. One should not scream throughout a song as it just makes the song sound loud and high, however at the right time a scream can perfectly emphasize a certain part in a song that needs to be expressed to the nth degree. For example: a perfect time to scream would be at the final few notes on the song "Entertainment Tonight"...
