Just a Thought - SCG

Just sittin around thinkin...What if the standard for the SWAC Champion Ship game was altered?I mean what if instead of it being the best in the East/West, what if it was based on the top 2 teams in the entire conference? Not to bash anyones school at all. But football-wise dont you all think the SGC would be better if, say for instance, a 10-0 team played a 9-1 team from the same division, instead of playing say a 7-3 team because of the east/west rule.Might be a good idea, might be a bad idea...yall let me know.(all this is hypothetical anyway)

  • Thats logical.....but its like that in every conference if im not mistaken.......well at least i know it holds true in the SEC (east/west) and the Big 12(north/south)........
  • it is like that in every conference
  • good point
  • that makes sense.....I like the idea....and it is justified.....but, thats to much like right....you we tend to stray away from the right things
  • I say let everybody in the conference play each other, and crown the team with the best record as SWAC Champs.
  • well thats how it would be if we were in a Bowl Conference...i think

but the Championship Conference ends with the SCG

  • The Bowl conferences that have 12 teams have divisions. The conferences that have 8 or 9 teams, everyone plays each other. Those with 10 or 11 teams play 8 conference games, with two or three of those games rotating from year.

Ex. in the Big Ten, Michigan and Ohio State WILL play every year, but each of them may play Minnesota every other year or three years. Minnesota and Wisconsin play every year, but may rotate Penn State.

The Pac 10 keeps its rivalrives and rotates, without splitting into divisions or having a title game.

Playing 7 or 8 games with the rotations could have worked in the SWAC, but too many people in their office are lazy or lack vision.
  • Yeah, we had a few SWAC schools that claimed they were struggling to find non-conference opponents to complete an 11-game schedule. I think Prairie View played 9 games and Jackson State played 10 games.
  • If the SCG was set up with the two teams with the best records going to the Championship, you would had Bayou Classic part 2 during the majority of this decade.
  • That would have just given Coach Richardson another chance to lose a big game from lack of coaching. Word of advice to every aspiring football coach, make sure you hire good assistant coaches, or your program will never improve or stay on top.
