  • Please elaborate. What is the Legacy Bowl?
  • I'm in favor for it. Money for the schools.
  • For those who have no idea about this game, this is the new version of the old Heritage Bowl: a football game between the champions of the SwAC & the MEAC. This game gets rid of the SwAC championship & the MEAC loses their playoff bid in football. The participating schools in the game receives 3 million apiece from ESPN. However, this game sparked contrevoursy within the MEAC conference due to the opportunity cost of losing the playoff birth for the NCAA FCS Playoffs. IMO, this is a waste of time for the MEAC in regardsto football but band wise a pre-Honda showcase.
  • It's not like someone in the MEAC was going to win a national championship anyway lol
  • IDK...SCState was close to beating Appilachan State last year. My school, FAM, & Morgan State is filled with NFL stock that can easily bulldoze many other FCS schools. Ok...maybe not The Big Sky Conference. LoL
  • Almost doesn't count and it was the first round. SCSU has good teams every other decade but now they think they are something. smh. FAMU hangs on to that championship before the system got put in place. The playing field isn't leveled like it once was but many are to blind to see it, that's why i don't know why the MEAC is going crazy over the play-offs. Just schedule the Appalachian States and the FIU's during the regular season, get the win, play in the Legacy Bowl on national tv and get paid. HBCU'S would really make a statement then because it will show massa we don't need the play offs.

What is your opinion about the new Heritage Bowl game that is proposed to occur next year? Here's a link for those who desire more information about…
  • I'm not a college football guru or historian, or a know-it-all behind the politics of HBCU football. But if the MEAC doesn't wish to participate, why can't another HBCU conference champ play in their place? Does it HAVE TO BE between the SWAC and MEAC champs?
  • probably so because of the SWAC and MEAC being the two D1-AA HBCU conferences...us (SIAC) and the CIAA are D2

  • I look forward to seeing the Classic come back. I don't see what the big deal is with the MEAC teams wanting to go to the Playoff's either. Most HBCU's usually get smashed the First Round of Playoff Games anyway (Because majority schools now possess the talent that would have been at HBCU's years ago.... before African American Students could safely attend those schools).

With that said, have an HBCU Superbowl and be done with it. Other wise leave your conference and position yourself to play and win National Championships if that's what your goal is.
  • I like the idea but I would include all HBCU conferences, as to broaden the out-come of the bowl game... I understand the whole D1, D2 thing but I think for band and football purposes it would make the HBCU experience more interesting and more competitive... And with the fan base in the SIAC and CIAA (atleast during basketball season) think of the exposure...
