LHSAA says No to 5q's...

Last weekend while at the St. Aug vs 35 game. I was informed that bands must leave the stadium after each bands Alma-Mater song is played which means No 5Q battles at high school game Mainly because They don't want anyone in the stadium after 10pm   Out of that discussion of course came the idea of Pre-Game battles. the only way that could happen is through Director agreements and maybe somehow having the bands and spectators also enter the stadium at least 30 minutes to an hour before the games start.

Otherwise Bands rarely make it to the games that early. especially in N.O due to our large marching units..

Aside from that, There were rules implemented last year enforcing Scoreboard to run for at least 15 to 20 minutes depending on Coaches agreements to assure that the bands are off the field by the time they return to the field. They didn't mention Separate Time limits for both bands but it's common sense that each bands gets 7 minutes of Field time a piece. the only time field shows are extended (and will be exceptional) is during Homecoming games.  therefore 15-20 minutes is reasonable. . Even while when the rules weren't enforced that was common sense.

it almost takes away the fun from HS football. games I'm trying to find an official article or new letter surrounding the subject of Bands and 5Q's.

  • That's crazy. It seems like lhssa doesn't care about bands. Just like football teams, bands practice daliy and prepare just as hard and long in order to showcase their talents. First it was the swac rule, now its this. Before you know it, bands won't be able to perform at the football games at all!!!!!
  • That sucks...we still do 5ths or parking lots in baton rouge.....maybe its not enforced like it is in n.o.
  • This is ridicules the main reason people come to the game is for the band.
  • LET THE BANDS PLAY!!!!

Is it me or does it seem like there seems to be more rules going against bands at football games now? Or is it that i am just hearing about them?
