I'm looking in newspaper and I see a pic of them in the stands. This is what I counted:40 trombones13 baritones73 trumpets27 mellophones37 tubasand a host of woodwinds and percussion...So what's your thought in HBCU terms? I love their trumpet numbers. 10 more baritones would complete it to me.

  • I would not change a thing!  If I noticed correctly about their Baritone section, they may be playing with marching euphoniums, which carries a dark and more powerful sound.  Norfolk St. uses those as well.

    • I do believe they are using euphoniums

  • I would add about 4 more btones

    drop the mellos to 20

    and trumpets to 65

    • 65 trumpets is still strong

  • I've actually heard LSU band in person at one of their practices before, I must give them respect because they do not try and over blow each, its all about the ensemble,  you dont see unnecessary Horn movements when they try and play loud, and most importantly They do not poke their cheeks out when they play at a Fortissimo  Level,  Meaning All the air that they use goes directly through to the horn and now in there cheeks, which causes them to be really loud,

Plus they have such Great Discipline, which causes them to get Business taken care of with very little mistakes

    • Right! Breathing from your diaphram makes a huge difference. I'm sure their band doesn't have those few ignorant, cocky individuals who slows down programs either.
