So right now I'm at Central Michigan University. I'm in the marching band and several other bands however I'm not a major. My question is this: if I go to a HBCU for graduate studies (not music), would I be able to join the marching band? I'm willing to go through whatever beginning processes.. that doesn't matter to me. I just want to experience everything HBCU Bands have to offer. If I could've started at a HBCU, I obviously would've but I didn't. I'm only a freshman right now anyway, but I'm just wondering for future reference because if not, I will consider transferring now.

  • If you are enrolled in the University in any capacity Im pretty sure you can march in the band

  • yes you can, just talk with the band director(s), staff.

Also if there is a HBCU near you and the current school you attend doesn't have a band they may allow you to march as well.

  • Yep as long as you're an official student of the school, it doesn't matter to them.  HBCU bands can be very time consuming, especially your first year.
