Whats going on Band Head Fam,I am back from a crazy, exciting and VERY educating weekend at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL. This is a conference for high school students, college students, directors, retired directors, band lovers and just people who want something to do in Chicago that week that displays and educates you on EVERYTHING you need to know about BAND!!!! It was awesome! There were seminars on different topics and instrumentation. There were also live concerts from orchestras, jazz bands, symphonies and more from ALL OF THE WORLD.....PLUS, there was an exhibition where you could bring your mouthpiece and try out ALL of the instruments from the brand companies who were there. Even if you did not bring your mouthpiece they would have one for you. There were even drum sets and etc. for the percussion section. PLUS, they had a section where they sold music, method books, song books, solos, duets and etc. in the exhibition.. Educational Packets, Magazines, Bags and etc. were given away and it was a great experience for bandsmen WORLD WIDE....The only I hated was that there weren't many students from the HBCU's. The only schools I SAW represented (there probably were more) were: Alabama A & M, Florida A & M, Bethune Cookman, and Langston. (If there were more, please let me know..no disrespect, I just didnt meet anyone from other schools there besides these) The rest were the BIG 10, SEC schools and etc. We have to step it up. That conference really shows you what it takes to have a GREAT BAND on the marching band and concert band segment of the band program...This was also a GREAT networking tool.Get with your band director and get on it because next year in 2010 I would love to see HBCU's coming to that conference in big numbers and exploring the greatness as well. Oh yeah, this is NOT just for music majors. If you are not a music major, you CAN go as well. I promise you, it is worth the time.Check out the website too....www.midwestclinic.org

Yeah, you must set aside money for this because after paying for the conference, the hotel, money to eat, money to buy stuff and etc...YOU WILL need it!!! lol!! I feel you though man!!!
