    AAMU

I think the reason for this is because of the fluctuation of size.

96-99 Very large and power band. Sound was great. great book selection

00-03 Size normal great book selection

04 very Small. book was off the chain

05-10 good size. book off the chain. sound was great. Powerful band

11 normal size. ok book selection.

12 very small size. book was fair. still going toe to toe with the big dogs in size.

In saying this if you look back recently no matter the size AAMU still kept that good sound, book selection. However, as the critical band world if your size is down you get looked over.

I will say this IF/ When AAMU get back to a good balanced size YOU BETTER WATCH THE HECK OUT!!! (HINT: 89/9699/06)

  • what i dont understand is that considering the resume and the caliber of band that TnSU is....how are we so underrated?? that excuse of "we not in a SWAC/MEAC conference" needs to die!

  • @Bakari I think that is the main reason why you guys are so underrated. Plus you guys tend to either play the same ol same. Or you could have a book depending on the year.

TSU is also different from the norm which is always good in my book.

    I enjoy bands like:

    BCU

    NCAT

    Norfolk

    AAMU

    UAPB

    TennStateU

These bands are not the always BLOW your house down...I want to be big just because type of band. They actually see Marching band as a art and for entertainment. Perform for the crowd and not just for your opponent.

So I think where there is Underrated as some say I also see it as Unique and Unpredictable.

  • Tuskegee is an underrated band.... possibly cause they don't travel much (like PVAMU) but their following is one of the BEST in the SIAC

  • Alabama A&M has the potential to be a very important factor!! No matter what size they are they always bring a powerful sound . To me arrangements play a big part in A&M being underrated, if they had a cold arranger it would be trouble in the SWAC.... As far as Tennessee State, I feel that they have the cold arranger and clarity in sound but because they sound isn't as aggressive ,people don't acknowledge their talent as much.

  • Ummm.....not sure what you mean by 'Cold' arranger. I've heard some great arrangements comin' from AAMU. If they had more trumpets to carry the melodies then it would be even better, however, they sound good for what they have in most arrangements. If they had more band members it would be trouble in the SWAC! They'll get there soon......

  • You don't need more band members to be good.... Alabama State got enough to share with everybody but they still sound bad!! Alabama A&M does need more trumpets though.... By "cold" arranger I mean a better arranger, Alabama A&M arrangements are trash!! If you lack in a certain area of instrumentation why not arrange around what you have? That's why it's called an arrangement, arrange the song to where your band is comfortable and everything is balanced.

  • to the "us playing the same ol same ol" point i say this.....name me ONE band that doesn't do the same thing.....SU JSU FAMU etc do the same thing and no one says anything about it....hell BCU has had the same songs in rotation since 2004 (dont believe me look them up) but people say they the greatest and in many ways they are....my point it that everybody has their "bread n butter" songs that they have played since 19** ....but we also have one of the deepest books in all of HBCU bands every year....yes we play "the mix" every year but that is a staple not only in the band but the school  as well...

  • @ FREAK NASTY, I am curious to know what college band you are affiliated with, since you stated ASU sounds bad. LoL I'll wait for it! I understand these comments are simply opinions, but you should make sure you are in a position to "bash"
another bands program before doing so. Bama State band is surly appeasing to masses, if not so, they wouldn't have so many young adults "flocking" to be apart of the greatness of their program. Simple logic.
