  • If that's what they do on a regular basis, they're definitely not being properly prepared to be in a marching band. I guess they'll be some cold sight readers tho....*shrugs*
  • FULL CIRCLE..................this was commonplace many decades ago....

1 of the many things that separated SHOWSTYLE BANDS(led by Dr.Foster & FAMU n the 1940s) was playing  music from memory !!!
that included pre-game,halftime shows and post-game music.

alot of people think that the highstepping marching bands of the Big 10 were the direct link to HBCU bands..they have to be applauded and respected bcuz they allowed Blacks to further their education when other schools wouldnt.....the reason so many music majors and athletes moved into professional careers in the early to middle (to damn near (1960s)1900s were bcuz of those Big 10 schools

But most of them(Big 10 bands)read music on the field too' ,which was commonplace and normal !!

the innovations brought to marching band by the HBCU BDs revolutionized the bands and the 30 + by FAMU alone changed the game forever.
  • Well I was there... The middle schools used the stands, high school bands did not.

Corps bands do "memorize" their music. Now "most" non-showstyle bands use music folios early in the season to help memorize the difficult concert music. By late October you wont see them unless its a Christmas parade or something out the norm.

And it helps when your college band plays the same music as your high school.

  • where i live they use lyres that stay on their instruments with their music. they use em on the field and in stands
  • yeah I figured it was a middle school b4 i posted the clip. but seeing stands on the field was just unusual for me

  • I'll give them a pass since its middle school. I'm just glad to see that they are playing instruments & reading the music.
  • Oh, ok. I figured it was middle school, because they looked so young. They get a pass. Like I said earlier, they'll be some damn good sight readers.lol.
  • Those kids with those stands are the reason the Beaumont bands have done so well the past few years.  I'll take it...

But the kid with the "I <3 Boobies" wristband needs a whoopin'...

  • Yeah a lot of middle schools use stands on the football field  Just the fact that they have middle school bands doing something is AMAZING !!!!!!   Thats why Beaumont bands are thriving while the other inner city school bands in the country look like a 12 pack...
