Recently I've been having trouble hitting notes in the upper register (i.e High A, B, C ect) Now the only problem is before I auditioned for my College I had no problems hitting high C or even above(I mean I just got done with performing Dreamgirls not to long ago and most of the music is up there) Now sometimes when I try to hit the upper register I hear a airy tone as well as a sound an octave above what Im aiming for. Now is the problem me, the instrument or the mouth piece. And please give suggestions to help.

its probably the mouthpiece it could be cuz you not practicin no more
Well the mouthpiece has a lot of dents. Its been dropped a few times and one side is literally flat. Everyone was telling me its nothing to worry about though. Does it seem like a reason to get a new mouth piece?

its neither its your AIR range is ALL about AIR work on your AIR and practice more in your upper register and practice using more AIR you're hearing that airy sound because you're not moving your air fast enough so practice blowing more faster air through your horn and take bigger breaths
you might have just not played for a while and got rusty. how long did you go without playing after audition? longtones in my lower register always help me get my chops back. Then I just slur it all back.

@Timothy Martin - double-cup mouthpieces are good for range...but thats about it. everything else suffers...trust me i've seen it.
3C....all-purpose mouthpiece...believe it
