Note To 35 Alumni: Save your Band Program

The Administration at 35 is trying to shut down the band program because they do not understand the nature of marching band., The school only wants a concert band, The administration down has shut down the marching band and the director has refused to return because of it.

Today in School, the students were talking among themselves in class, they mentioned it it to a teacher who is also a Sponsor for the color guards. She gave them a pass to go to administration about the situation. at that point, those students got support from other students, faculty & staff sponsors who work around the band and they basically caused an uproar.  saying "If you shut the band down, your shutting down the entire marching unit" as well as making events like football games boring..

Eventually, My brother who's a Senior went directly to the principal and explained why the band is needed, as well as why the band functions as it does. Eventually she gave him the Keys to the band room and they practiced without a director till the end of the day. After School, the principals asked that they close up for the day.  After School there was an emergency meeting with all auxiliary sponsors because of that uproar.

At this point I guess the sponsors of all the supporting groups will have to defend the band program.

All of this simply because The administration does not understand why the band does what they do.

  • Takes courage to do somethin lik that. Glad it wrked n the young ones favor. Wish sumone wud hav did the same for my skool wen the program was being cutt.
  • Book it's gonna be hard for any alumni to come forward if they keep the current band director. I'm not gonna say anything negative about the program because I'm a proud alumni of 35. But I will say this when you make a comment about not wanting alumni around, don't expect us to save anything until you are gone.
  • SMH... Too much inaccurate information.
    • i wouldn't know man this is info i got from students.
  • So did the director come back? Can't imagine what their thought process was in eliminating the marching component to band, especially in New Orleans of all places.
    • the director isn't gone. he just cant hold practice after school right now
  • Glad to see students still have some kind of pride in their program...

  • Administration really dont understand how they are hurting the kids as well as the tradition of the school. This is mainly the problem with every school in New Orleans smh. It gets worse and worse as the years go by,but then everyone looks at the Band Directors as if they are the problem, which in some cases they are but C'mon nah
