MY SON MOM AND I HAVE BEEN DISAGREEING ON PUTTING TREQUYNN( MY SON) ON TRUMPET HE IS 7. BUT SHE SAY HE TOO YOUNG TO BE PLAYING A HORN. WHILE THE DOUBLE STANDARD SHE STARTED BEING A DANCER AT AGE 5. SO HOW YOUNG IS TOO YOUNG IN YALL OPINION TO TRAIN YOUR CHILD ON A HORN?

i say when your child develops the desire to wanna play and not when u decide.if a child wants to play then u as a parent should first talk to your child and talk about what it takes to be a musician.just make sure its their dream and wants and not yours
My son is 5 and he has started on trumpet cause he wants to play. He ask me and at first I thought the same thing and I'm a band director, but after I thought about it, if he wants to do it and he also understand what it takes to be a musician I bring it home and he practice. I never push him and I get tired and he still wants to play. If it was up to him he would practice all night. I teach him no longer than 30 mins to a hour and then I tell him to put it up. Most of the time he don't. The question is when is to young, the answer is its never to young cause they can start on piano, percussion, recorder or string instruments. A professional trumpet player told me at the TBA convention that if he wants to play don't stop him and I let him pick out his mouth piece.
Exactly. Just don't be one of those parents whose child hates them because they were forced to participate in activities that they didn't want to LOL. I've seen it in sports plenty of times.

the younger, the better i say. i mean, the earlier he starts, the better he is gonna be when he gets older.
wish my parents would have had the money to start me on sax at 7 years old.
but it is true what everyone else has stated. it all up to him. if you push him into it, he could end up hating it. let him try it out and see if he likes it. i'm pretty sure he will.
well im the mother of the thread this child is about and here are the reasons why i disagree with OUR son. Tre is in karate and basketball at the moment. yes he does play Dre trumpet all the time but that does not mean he wants to be in band. Since Dre has been a single parent for so long he feels as my opinion does not matter. And NO dre do not force tre to do anything, anyone that knows dre knows OUR SON is his pride and joy, and dre even sayes if tre wants to be a cheerleader he will be his NUMBER ONE fan. I just feel for Tre to be only 7 he is very active enough
I started dancing at age 5 so that is maybe why Dre is saying its a double standard but i feel its not the same..
ok Kee kee listen u know tre love the bands wen i take him to games, and u just dont want him to play cuz u think its sumthin that I want him to do and i dont, but all in all i tihnk its good for him to explore it and u know if he don't like it he wont continue!
