  • I think size has nothing to do with. But the first thing should be NO HORN HOLDER. Start small, if many people wanna join and can not play, do not rush the learning because the more people; the more problems. Once you can hande 50, double your size but let it be clean. Do not let them puff their cheeks and/or blow sharp. Thats a good high school band. 100-deep, a nice clean sound, NO HORN HOLDERS, marching at a 90 degree, and traveling.
  • Good point. Didn't think about it like that.

Opinions On What Makes a Successful Program
What do you think does it? Im talking bout all round. Size, retention rate, ect.
  • DISCIPLINE is first and foremost. If the band is not 100% dedicated to do anything then all is lost. ITs not about numbers, who can outblow who, who wins the most but about consistent dedication and DISCIPLINE. Discipline opens doors to your skill level which makes for a great marching band, decent concert band and jazz should be easy.
  • The way you treat your students and act towards them has to deal with a lo of how your program will turn out...
Example.. We look at our BD not only as that but as a friend or a big brother... Therefor we would do moe and push ourselfs arder for him... But there also has to be a line which is were respect comes in at...

P.S it is a lot and is very complex...
  • dedication and direction.
