My band director and drum instructor attended BCU, and always talk about how FAMU let people outside of FAMU march with them. I know a few people looking to attend Florida State but are planning to march with the 100. Does anyone know what other schools do this ?
You need to be a member of bandhead.org to add comments!
nope never heard of accredited hbcu's especially well known letting outsiders march just because of ability or talent only exxection was/is alumi just suiting up and marching outsiders been considered no- no's but thats just my knowledge of you topic maybe some1 else knows differrent guess well have to see what else posts up
yeah its always been that way, maybe about 200+ FAMU is part of the FSU system so that really doesn't matter.. but for them CC students. its not cool..lol
i don't care about famu. i'm talking about smaller schools. vsu, tsu, asu? I know bcu has a limit they march year, 425, and they still got people on the sidelines. what about bands that march only 8 tubas? these bands could definetely use some outsiders
Believe it or not there are some band directors that keep their numbers low purposely.
And yes there are a number of schools that march people outside of their school that are small, under 150 small. I wont call names though i know it for fact, not my style.
But most of these schools who march outsiders do so because those from these outsider school usually dont have football teams thus meaning they dont have a marching band.

If u are in a region/school that isnt football oriented, you prolly wont have the financial/alumni/fan support or student intrest to maintain a large band.....not to mention if the school is small too......

Bowie State. Use to use Students from Prince Georges Comm. College because the College doesnt have a Music program which is Bull becasue PGCC is one of the Top Comm Colleges in the nation. this is one reason why BSU is not as big compared to the 130 member bands they had, Howard use to march University of DC students because UDC lost there football teamn (therefore lost there music program) sometime around 95-2001. thats was one of the reason why Howard was a FORCE them years. If you dont know about UDC Marching Band ask any old Meac/CIAA band head about them
