I wanted to know since many bands are so into parade season, mostly mardi gras parades: how does that affect your bands concert season. Do your band(s) attend large ensemble festival or have an end of the year concert playing concert selections?

well it dosent effect my band at all we been doing concert senice the end of october...so parades aint nothing........it dosent take long to get some parade stuff done.
in my program we dont have a parade season, we do parades when they are avaliable and i feel are worth doing. on a musical stand point, if you teach your students the correct way to play then all you have to truly deal with is changing music and the mindset to enhance your musical performance.
I know when i was in high school, my band director only did one parade during concert season, he was very serious about concert season and i don't blame him. That's when the band/students builds their technique, embouchure, skills etc. If a band is serious about concert season, they more than likely have a great marching band program and i'm not taking about being loud. I'm talking a good sounding ensemble.
We are doing 1 mardi gras parade and 1 basketball game so the children can have a fun experience, then it is back to fundamentals and concert band music for the recruiting trip and spring concert.
it all came together once when we had to Play at the Zulu Ball.. LOL! we Marched a parade. then took our overlays off and went to do a concert performance as the rest of the band went home.. we played The Zulu Waltz and some other tune.. it was fun!..
other than that, technically anything after school was Marching Band year around. because we had a Crazy Marching Schedule.... thanks to tourism, our band 3 or 4 times a week.
