People who tape bands/youtube

The season is upon us.

I finally bought an external mic and used it with my HD cam. The difference was great.

Mac folks can answer this also if you know. I'm going back to windows this fall. What is a good video editing software? I use Pinnacle and dazzle to capture vhs stuff.

It takes forever to render but I was using an old 2006 dell. I'm upgrading this fall. Is 6MB of RAM and a 1TB hardrive good enough to handle HD video and have good render speed?

P.S I still have a lot of tapes. I used a Dazzle for audio/video capture but Pinnacle would drop frames like crazy. Are USB capture devices compatible with most video editing software??

P.S.S I'm taping the Chicago Football Classic, BoomBox, and Circle City. subscribe to my channel

  • Man I had that dazzle thing in 2009 actually I still have it...I used it to record off my tv to my computer. Band vhs, games n stuff. I stopped tho once I got a new cam,new laptop and got more xperienced with footage. I also remember having to convert ALOT after capturing...But yeah Sony Vegas is good, but I always prefered imovie on a mac for good quality and I find imovie faster. But I'm not 100% pro I think gnr and book are the people to ask this too...Check your inbox also man.
  • yeah Sony Vegas is Highly Recommended

    I actually want http://www.avid.com/US/products/avid-studio

  • OK, let me take a shot at your questions, First off your 6MB of ram 1TB is more than enough, however you must check your graphic card to see if can process images/footage fast enough for playback, which will solve ur rendering problem.... some Graphic cards are made for studio work others are for gaming... 2nd Pinnacle is find it does not drop frames on its own.. its ur camera thats doing that, if u use tapes or SD ,CF cards ext. you need to let ur camera adjust to the room tempt. hot or cold give it like 10 - 15mins, before you start capturing ur footage...if ur are using cards with 200x speeds its two slow for video... i recommend 400x or higher...

I hope this helps, good luck to all my fellow camera mans - Happy Hunting!

  • yeah we need to have a facebook group on it . so everybody can be on the same page. cause although in a sense it's  competition, we all gotta be on the same page to get good footage of these bands and make them look good.

  • I've started using sony vegas    I'll be at the boombox...southern heritage...uapb/tnst...uapb/jsu and hopefully uapb/texas southern if they decide to go

  • I've always used Avid or Pinnacle with Windows. I only use it to watermark, otherwise I upload the clips straight from my camcorder. I'm not sure what's in my PC but a 10 min fieldshow takes about 2 hours to render a nice HD clip.

As far a transferring tapes to digital, I send them to imemories.com. They charge like $9 per tape. They send it back on a hard drive and all you have to do is cut and upload. Or if you know someone at local public access or tv station ask them to do it. That process can be a total waste of time if you don't have the right equipment.
  • always make sure u have a strong graphics card to handle video editing and also make sure that u have a nice processor that can also handle the job the new intel 3rd generation I5 and I7's have turbo boost that keep your system stable when running multiple programs and are good for handling programs like sony vega and avid...also the size of ram and hard drive space is good...

  • Recording bands is not cheap either man. Goodness!
  • You need a computer with a powerful processors for the kind of videos we shot now. This summer, I got a Desktop Computer with a 3.6GHZ processor which is far superior to the 2.0GHZ I have on my laptop. I also have 8GB of Ram on my desktop compared to 4GB on my laptop. On my Laptop, it took me about two hours to render a 15 min video with my camera but now with my new computer, a 15 min video is done in 10 mins. The intel series is great. I5's and I7's are the best. So i suggest, when ever you have the money, you should invest in a new computer. I use PowerDirector 10 for all my videos but I use Pinnacle Studio 15 for making dvd's.

  • And for all the people who watch my videos, I'm sorry to tell you all but I am now apart of HumanJukebox.com. More than likely I will be uploading SU Clips like I was the past two years.

    Thank you for visiting!
