Why do I keep reading that there is a problem between the band directors in Baton Rouge? I have read on several threads that the Baton Rouge All-star band situation keeps getting compared to Houston’s situation.
Baton Rouge has had 2 area All-star groups coexist for about 7 years now. The Louisiana Leadership Institute and the Louisiana Sounds of Dynamite. One group is made up of a staff outside of the Baton Rouge area with kids coming from as far as Lutcher and Opelousas and the other with a staff of ALL the local inner city BR directors and students from their particular programs.
Is Baton Rouge big enough for 2 groups? YES
Will the groups ever combine? NO
What’s the main reason the groups will never combine? POINT BLANK, The BR directors WILL NOT work under a certain former Senator.
In the past 7 or so years there has never been a problem with the 2 groups coexisting. It only became a “problem” when the usually smaller group swelled in numbers.
Not sure what the problem is in Houston and frankly don’t care. But let me state this for the last time, there is no bad blood amongst the inner city BR Band Directors. They ALL are on 1 staff.
Keep hope alive and stay out the bushes.

Well the issues in Houston kinda came at a shock considering how much progress was being made over the last 5 years or so.
But the minute the "bagman" got into the marching band business... ooooooo Im not going there tonight
It really did just come out of nowhere.
I had fun during my time in that organization(excluding the controversial figure), but my I loved every bit of my regular high school band.
You are right I know better, that is why I agreed with his statement.
Since when does not wanting to combine a 8 year program or not wanting to work for a former senator constitutes being childish?
What constitutes being a "Beast"?
Southern's having major budget cuts and enrolled is down. Should they combine with LSU? Are they being "childish" for not wanting to?
FYI, it isn't just Southern having major budget cuts, everyone in the state is having budget cuts. Nice try at using an analogy though.
