Do we even know what a "beast" or "beasting" is, to categorize ANYTHING as such? What is your take on the phrase, and why do we apply it to our style of play in band?I think the phrase is grossly misused.Care to discuss?

I usually don't use the term but if i were to define it, it would mean, a band playing at fff with CONTROL that the crowd and opposing band gives off a serious reaction letting the band know they are pushing some watts. It would seem the band was on steroids. Example: SU 2005 And Then What, that's beasting. I don't want that kind of playing on every song and I wouldn't dare allow my band do it much. I can count on my fingers how many times i have used that terminology. Most people who use the term is ignorant about music and characteristic tones, they use the term on a normal basis and they feel offended when you say their band is not beasting. They are the kind that don't know the difference from a Picardy 3rd vs a C7 (#5), so i don't put much stock into them.
I used the word a few times when referring to many different aspects of band. I know I have told some people that they beasted their solo in performance class. I don't really use it just to talk about volume, more so doing a good job on something.

It is just like how people from Baton Rouge and everywhere else always disagree about the whole cold drink vs. soda pop argument. I have always and forever will refer to carbonated beverages as a cold drink, other areas call it pop or soda.

When I hear it, I think of a crude, unrefined, undeveloped, untamed, immature entity (doesn't have to be an animal), with no real substance.
Sometimes, I get a little offended when people say such things about my band.
"Yeah, such and such band is a BEAST".
It makes that band sound so...primitive....
