Question: What is it That you want out of this site?

As an Administrator of this site, My job isn't necessarily to make all the members happy, but to promote an environment that is user friendly to all of our users. With the forum being the general focus of the site. We expect the event decisions as well as rivalry smack talk along with all the unnecessary drama.

Although we don't have Official site Rules, we do expect that each member respect common forum etiquette when participating in threads. Time to time we get the Trolling, Cross Posting and spamming, We're okay with that. Also when creating or participating in threads We do expect you all to read discussions whether long or short before you decide to make a comment. This is not Twitter, elaborate and expound on subjects so that you are understood. The one thing that we don't want is that our users to  be addressed users in a negatively profound fashion.

We have users of different Ethnicity, nationalities, non american counties, and sexual orientations. Whether the General user or Moderator of this site,  no mater how we disagree we no not want to be disrespectful when we address each other for those reasons. Those subjects will be handled individually by request or by administrators judgement.

In the beginning, before The Social networking Boom, our site consisted of a webpage featuring audio, photos, University Directory and a forum. During the first 6 years Our forum was viewed as a community most of our members knew each other personally or have met one another in time. There was a buddy system where users would meet and great for Games, not just post anonymously about how they really feel regarding band programs or what ever subject there is. This site was more than a marching band site our social network where we discussed subjects beyond high school and collegiate band events. My goal is to bring back That sense of community among our members.

As we come in to the fall there will be some changes made. The possibility of a newly Hosted Forum..Which means that the forum will be replaced and you all will have to create user handles for that particular area.

I've pictured in my head what Future forums we'll have on the site, with the Now Defunct SWACfans and Showtimemag sites. I thought of bringing on a forums that are reminiscent of those site forums.. Such as "The Heat"  which was SWACfans a smack forum where intense band rivalry discussions took place.  I've also thought of bringing in bore forums for purposes of music education.. One of our is to assure high school students get all the information necessarily to get them into college. We already have forums for those things, but in the future, we will go beyond our own reach to provide a space for every member, Director of bands, Community bands, Concert as well as Corps style bands are free to debate the subjects that matter to them most.

Our Dance and Auxiliary section will likely be expanded to multiple forums, One with a focus on School related dance/aux lines, Another for Collegiate & Professional recruitment and Promotions

As well as a forum for you fans who to post topics related to Youtube clips and TV shows unrelated to HBCU dance lines.

There will also be our Non Band Discussions forums where members can discuss Music, News, Religion, Culture, Entertainment, Education, Politics Poetry, Gaming, Technology etc. All things under the son, whether it be under 1 forum or multiple forums

Those are basic Forums Ideas which have worked in the past, that I believe will work in the future of the Marchingsport.com/ Bandhead.org At this point. What I need from you all is Feedback regarding your personal expectations and possible discussion forms of the future.

All Things will be taken into consideration.

  • *like*

  • nobody will read. it has too many words LOL

  • then come on here  asking "what happened to the old forum?"

  • yep

  • In my experience in visiting forums, it seems that the best forums are the ones that are not the most complex, but also show a lot of diversity.  When you make the new forums, do not make like a billion different subforums within each forums.  Because in the end, you will have like 20 subforums in each section with like 3 (active) topics within each.  As a result the forum will seem kind of dead, when in fact it is very alive, and won't attract a lot of new users.

I also hope that you'll be able to keep somethings, like the chatbox as well as the ability to upload videos and whatnot, as those are also great factors of communication between bandheads.

  • True, all im trying to do is organize whats already going to be discussed., for example "Club MXP" our off topic forum we have always had 1 .it replaced  about 5 forums on the original website.  I tried to bring it back here and nobody goes in it because they don't see the site fit for them to discuss non band subjects.

Originally we had a Forum for each conference, each city and frat.. all that was scraped when this site came because we figured folks would use the groups. that really didn't work as planned. same for the dancers. we didn't have a dance forum on the original site, they were using the SIAC forum to post dance topics in ..LOL! .. I just gotta have enough to make it work and keep people interested. I don't want anybody saying "Why don't middle schools have a forum" ..

and.. I need a Concert band forum so that folks can stop bothering N.O bands about our Parade Schedules .. lol but the reality is. there has to be a location where the student can ask someone for help and not be ashamed. seriously.

  • You should make a combined Concert/Jazz Band forum (hitting two birds with one stone )and a "Music Theory and Musicianship" forum. In the music theory and musician ship forum you can have like 4-5 subforums.  Woodwind Theory, Brasswind Theory, Percussion Theory and a subforum for the actually music theory.

  • Sounds great...I think there should also be a "suggestion" subforum in the director forum regarding song suggestions...it would eliminate all the different song threads that pop up in the spring and fall...it would also be a great tool for directors searching for songs to add to their books....
  • I'm always for freedom!

But I no longer see good trash talking or debates on the forums. That's what kept folks returning. When mods started to censor users opinions, users left.

Old school folks didn't care about trash talk on band forums. But something happened around 2008ish. In came the "nanny state." Every titty babby started crying about being offended.

Because we have to believe if someone is offended then everyone has to be offended. That's stupidity at it's finest.
There's a "report, thumbs down" b!+%h button on every site for some crybaby to click when they're offended. Verses replying back with their own opinion. But they probably don't have one due to the education. it's just easier to cry.

What ever happened to turning the pc off? or changing the channel?

But as you see with current day society, every damn body is offended.
  • that's where our forums have gone folks...
