Fast Facts:
(Sommerville,TN-10/26/11)-An 18-year-old
Fayette Ware High School student was charged with aggravated assault after
another student was injured on school grounds
Saturday.
14-year-old Brandon Henderson was treated at Lebonheur
after being injured by the schools drum major during a weekend band
practice.
Police say 18-year-old Artavious Anderson choked Brandon and
Brandon broke a bone in his eye socket when he fell or was pushed to the
ground,
Students say they have heard different stories about what
happened.
"They are just saying they were probably just playing.
Artavious is not a violent person, he wouldn't be doing it intentionally," said
one student.
Since the incident Saturday, both students have been absent
from school.
Artavious was arrested and locked up.
Brandon is
still at home recovering from his injuries.
But Brandon's family members
say the whole incident never would have happened if the kids had not been left
alone at the school.
"The band director in an attempt to get children
home he had a momentary lapse of judgement," said Principal Sonny
Hicks.
Sonny Hicks, principal at the high school, says the band director
left the school first to drive the other band members home and thought the other
students were also headed home.
Hicks says they somehow got back inside
the school building.
The schools assistant superintendent says students
should never be left unsupervised.
Principal Hicks says this is the last
thing you want to see happen at your school.
"It's a difficult situation
when you have kids hurt because the first objective is to insure the safety of
kids and sometimes that situation break," said Hicks.
So far no
disciplinary action has been taken against the band director or the
students.
Henderson's family now has an attorney and may seek legal
action. They have not said who that legal action will be against.

what the hell...
Senior to Freshman huh...
Since I don't really know what happened, I can only go by what I've read. If they were only playing, the senior should not have been arrested. But, if you're playing....why are you choking someone? The only two who actually know what happened seems to be the two involved. And if the 14 year old says that the 18 year old deliberately choked him and pushed him, he can get ready for those charges.
The school's gonna get sued for sure.
For the band director to leave the campus while there are still students left waiting for rides. Hell in high school, my directors wouldnt leave until 9:30, 10PM when practice let out at 7:30 -.- because kids were left at the school. Those students were the director's responcibility and he was not responcible. Yeah things like that can happen when he is there but probably would not turn out as severe.
But to be choking him...depends on what he was doing to choke him.
Playing or not, someone is going to take the bill for this one. It might as well be the two students and the BD. I just hope the BD does not lose his job over this. The senior will most likely be charge as an adult with aggrivated assult to a minor. But other than that I hope nothing to extreme happens to none of those involved.
Well... It seems as if the districts are doing a hell of a job protecting themselves.
This was a simple fight, they need to hug and move on. Somewhere the D.A.R.E program I grew up with has transformed into a full blown campus police force. Districts are locking kids up for simple things.
