Recap Day 2 of Atl Band Jamboree 2010

Here's my personal recap of this evening event. My opinion is completely unbiased as I didnt attend any of the high schools that were participating. If you're gonna respond, please be realistic! Thats all i ask...lol

Clarkston vs Avondale - It was both schools first times competing in Jamboree...Avondale needs to wait a few years to return. Clarkston did pretty good for their maturity level (looked more like a middle school band IMO), had a lot of energy, and won by a landslide!

North Atlanta vs Langston Hughes - Langston Hughes didnt show up! North Atlanta still performed...they were cool....had good arrangements for their size

Columbia vs Lithonia - Both bands were a complete LETDOWN!!!!  They had NO energy compared to previous years. I gave Round 1 to Columbia and the other rounds were mutual disasters. I hope Lithonia steps it up before they head to compete in Los Angeles.

Miller Grove vs Stephenson - This was a balanced matchup...Miller Grove was more exciting, but Stephenson showed more of a balanced band/sound. The edge goes to Stephenson...their dance squad was GREAT!

Whitehaven vs Redan - This matchup was balanced too. Whitehaven definitely brought a different flava to the Jamboree and won over the crowd by it...Ima give the edge to the hometeam though...Redan brought the end up...they lucky Whitehaven didnt get one more round tho...lol

SWD vs MLK - This matchup was a MASSACRE!!!!! If anybody says MLK won this, go play in traffic!!!! All four rounds go to SWD by a landslide and we not gon talk about how SWD took over MLK's side as well and surrounded them! It was really over after that. What happened to MLK's dance squad???? Fallen so far off!!!! And was all on SWD side during their routine!...oh well...

Next year, bring a New Orleans or Texas band in to match up wit SWD...Stephenson and Redan need to matchup if more out of state bands cant be brought in...Top bands were:

1. SWD

2. Stephenson and Redan had equal performance

3. Whitehaven

4. MLK

5. North Atlanta

6. Clarkston

7. Lithonia and Columbia equally let me down

8. Avondale - no words

  • Stephenson defiently won. Did you here the crowd at the end?
  • And I dont think SWD just killed MLK. Maybe in the dance routine but MLK defiently won the first set. They both are equally matched
  • i think swd used people from o perry walker

  • Clarkson > Avondale.......both bands need to work on a lot of things. Being small doesn't mean you can't sound good.

Was looking forward to seeing Langston Hughes.

Columbia > Lithonia Columbia fell off hard.......Whitehaven straight Chris Brown'd them after it was over smdh.

Miller Grove = Stephenson Miller Grove's arrangements will always pretty much make them louder than you would think, But Stephenson's balance and cleaness couldn't be overlooked. The crowd liked Miller Grove more, but as a musician...I felt like it was a tie.

Whitehaven > Redan Redan was really good, but Imo , W H brought a little something extra in every round...it wasn't a large margin of defeat, but I think that it was definitely clear. Or...maybe I was just excited to see something different in ATL...sorta like when the Steppers first came.....not sure what it was but....I liked Whitehaven a little bit better.

SWD >>>>>> MLK SWD was easily the best band there all night. They were the complete package. Sound, entertainment, they even brought a little volume with em this year on some parts :D. MLK wasn't horrible, but they didn't stand a chance.

Whitehaven was all beasty in the stands afterwards, they came to battle.

    ranking All the bands.

    1. SWD
    2. MG/Stephenson/WH
    5. Redan
    6. MLK
    7. Columbia

The others simply didn't really stand out much...not in a good way anyway.
I'd Like to see Whitehaven return next year....and maybe a band from VA....and OP Walker. The more diverse the better.

Any matchups including SWD,Stephenson, or MLK playing each other can get a bit boring.
I didn't really like the event being two days, I say only invite 14 bands, less time filling bands...and more quality matchups. Let the bands EARN the right to be there.
  • Yeah I think for the most part we witnessed the same show....yeah the Whitehaven/Redan matchup go either way...i like Whitehaven's arrangements...thought they would have been larger in size but was still very entertaining...but Redan brought up the end sets...but i'm sayin...if Whitehaven had one more round, it woulda got nasty!

The SWD/MLK matchup wasnt close! No, MLK wasnt bad...but it wasnt close AT ALL! It was a sibling rivalry and SWD was the older sibling who won!...lol...

I do have to admit that i'ma lil bias with Stephenson....they are really my favorite to watch and listen to...but overall, SWD had the total package for the #1 spot...

  • I forgot about Miller Grove in my rankings....they were equal to Whitehaven on that #3 spot...that woulda been a great matchup!!!
  • Stephenson had WAYYYY more crowd than Miller GRove. Please review your tapes. They cheered way louder for us than for them beginning AND end

  • On behalf of the program at Langston Hughes High School, I am disappointed about the many circumstances that kept us from performing at the 2010 Jamboree. This information was communicated to the organizers of the event on the morning of Wednesday, May 5th, giving them time to replace us. Although I'm a little to concerned of reports that our opponents used our absence as a way to gain favor with the crowd, I offer a sincere congratulations to North Atlanta for a great year and performance at the event.
  • but swd did that run around thing and the ones behind and on the left side of mlk didnt play one note on all i do is win
  • lol wow when we was leavin they started running around mlk and i saw some clarinets not playing
