Required Mouthpiece

I'm aware that some programs require their brass musicians to play on a specific mouthpiece, thats to say- the same mouthpiece for the whole section.Does your school have a required mouthpiece system. and if so, what is it for which instrument?

  • Yep. It is stated in the band camp letter that trumpet players are required to have a Bach 3C Megatone and other things such as mutes. For other sections, I'm not sure...can't really remember...
  • 6 1/2...no 12c
  • well the tubas are required...to have a Conn Helleburg mouthpiece...trumpets have to have a Bach.3C or 7C.....saxes have to have a Selmer C-star mouthpiece...thats mostly the requirements oh and bones and btones CANTt play on Jet tone mouthpie...
  • why play on a jet tone. smh
  • None when I marched. I require my private lessons students to play on 6 1/2 or 1g. After the first year then it doesn't matter. Whatever is comfortable. I personally am waiting to get a Doug Elliot for trombone. Stick with the standard i'd say. Interesting topic though. Because the LAST thing you want is a thin tone.....
