If you look at su in the stands and look at the individuals themselves they tend to sway back and forth while playing. Now su has been doing this for a while...I didnt like when they started doing it but oh well. The look is not uniformed to me with all the individual rockin BUT this isnt a thread about bashin su, it's about other bands that are now doing this.If you all notice, other bands have taken this and are doing it as well.Jus an FYI

Its not something that's done purposely...... Not by me anyway
Its just a natural body sway. Its funny caused a few of us talked about this last year at practice. I noticed that alot of ppl would knock ASU for the very same thing but I would never come down on them cause its something that I do as well. For SU, it obviously doesn't affect our sound. As long as the end reuslt is the same then hey, it is what it is.
Now if HS/College students are doing it because they think it makes them "look loud" or for anything along those lines then that sh!t is wack as h3ll.......lol
Agreed. I'm not sure if it actually helps or hurts but I kno I do it also. Seems to keep me in rhythm and it might help with keepin tempo but then again these are all just theories.

the sway thing is just natural body movement and it transfers to the man beside you...for example the box (our first trumpets) started all that swaying for us back in 05 when minnie me kamal kerry and steve would do it they were invading the space of the man next to him. so if i shift to the left the next person is going to shift as well unless he wants to rub bodys or something (and thats just gay) i said that to say it really only starts with one person and is more natural then intentional. for example if jaren does it at su everyone in his section will start doing it just cuz they tired of this ninja bumpin them. doesn't really look good though but then there are 100 other things to focus on ....i just hope it doesn't transfer to the field
Look and ANY and ALL great musicians who really get PASSIONATE while playing....... Jazz, funk, even classical musicians. It is just a natural 'swagger' that you get when you are comfortable on your horn and the music is just flowing out of you. Now, jerking or "yanking" the horns up and down..... THAT'S a different story.....
niether doesn't help but doen't hurt now when people raise there horns (yank ) it can sometimes help the section stay together on the attacks but mostly all you need is a strong presence on the box.

I Agree... I learned that back in highschool... The BD would call us out for yankin because he said "you look loud but you aint pushin nothin... stop all that extra movin if you not gonna produce a good strong sound" His point was that we should feel our music and focus on getting a good clean sound and then let your body conform to what you're producing... not the other way around...

This is exactly what I thought when I first noticed SU doing it. When you're into the music, you're into the music. I personally don't do it but I'm not knocking anyone else for doing it unless they're just doing something silly for no reason.

So, what...is this thread going to be Ground Zero for excepting this bad habit?
Point blank...I hate seeing all that. SU, to a very minimal extent, has been doing it for a sec. On the other end of the spectrum is BamaSt. They don't get criticized based on just doing it. But, the level of which they do it. Which is ridiculous. I don't care what kind of "feeling" they're getting. All that feeling should be producing the Brassiest Symphonic sound on God's green earth. And, no offense, but that ain't happen'n.
i know what u are talkin bout and personally i hate it....me and some other leaders have been crackin down on it tho...if u pay attn to su this year, u rarely see that
