    Well that all depends. If the director feels that they recent section leader has proven himself trustworthy and a good leader then he can pick the next section leader. But the director can if he doesn't like the direction the section is goin or is noticing someone who is trying to step up and make the section better.

      True..because the captain we have now doesn't really understand the impact his role has on the band and the drumline as well as the individual lives of the memebers

    The Band Director makes the ultimate call but Im sure he/she would take some input from the section to avoid problems.

      I agree. The Director should hold the tryout for the position, then later get input from the section members. However, the final decision should always be made by the director.

    Band director, he can get some input from the students, but the BD alone should make that choice.

    Just the fact that this is even a topic bothers me though.  One of the band issues is that kids are trying to make all of the decisions when it isnt their place......

      wait until they have to start making all the decisions...then see how hard it is to run a band.
