I've been looking at folks comments.... and 5 names consistently come as the fan favorites in the SWAC:*Funk Factory*Funk Train*War and Thunder*The BOX*KRANKThere should be a SWAC Drumline challenge between these 5 sections to settle the dispute of whose the best...... Just have each section battle out of the cadence book. NO FUNK TRAINS!!! NO DRUM FEATURES!!!! Just straight marching cadences and battle cadences....This is the only way to settle this dispute, because each drum section would be forced to "put it all out there"....Let the event take place in Lousiana or Mississippi (These are central locations for all 5 schools)Have bandhead.org record it.... or even better... make an entire website for it... Something like Honda but better. What y'all think????
You need to be a member of bandhead.org to add comments!
I guess ttb not good enough to be on that list....what if majority of those sections have more people that would like to battle ttb more than any other section, that still doesn't validate that WE are better than over half the sections you have on this list? The best sections to me on this list are the box (really just there snares and cadence tehnique), and WT depending on what they play. Yall have came along way since we battled in 04' (yall owe US)! I mean can we get some too?lol!! The reason why i ask is because this is a perfect idea, only thing is it seems as if this battle would be about who has the looses wrist, best dance moves, and the funkiest!lol!! If anything take the box off because the box and ttb would look dang near corp. style next to all yall. Oh to add some people never heard of pb until this year, and thats the band i'm talking about, krank got a lil exposure like two days ago when they put that battle of them and langston up, so im not sure if your list is a serious majority, or more like personal preference! this thing doesnt have polls like ms forums?
I think that would be a great idea. I heard things of that nature, but they never come together properly. But I say stick to the original poster's idea. No funk trains, no dancing unless its truly part of your cadence. Now features, I can't really get behind. The BOX creates at least 2 different features per year, so I think a feature should still be included. That creativity would surely put a section over the top.
TTB just never gets mentioned..... Has nothing to do with me. I mentioned them. No one else did.
The 5 sections i named are the one that get all the pub....
Bama St. is in the SWAC on leg tenor, backwards quints, bad snare drum form, and a good cymbal section.
Who wants to look at that in a SWAC environment???
Sorry, man.... That's just how I see it.... The only section in yalls section that gets respect is the cymbals. Thats it! It takes more then cymbals to make a drum section, dude

Your section leader from 04' doesn't beleive that! lol! Im just talking ish, but i feel you though! Well if this idea is possible why don't the percussionist of the swac have a vote also! I think we'll make the list if it was based off of the percussionist opinions. (i guess thats just an opinion too lol!! ) I like the idea though, and the area's that you mentioned are all reachable for me to attend. Just don't leave out my section cause even some members of the sections you mentioned know we are competitive if not better than them! And don't forget yall owe us!
Should there be a SWAC Drumline Challenge???

So the question was if we would like to see a swac drum competition .... with no drum features just marching and battling ???? sounds ok but, I think you should have just a 10 min show do what ever you do best! because in my opinion every section in the swac has something they known for. for example .... the box drum features.... F.T battling .... F.F marching cadences......and so on yall get my point! and put it somwhere out the swac for neutal grounds ...like Atl. and we might have somthing here! however long story short just make a Honda drum battle .....instead of the tunnel thing put it on the field and make some extra money!!!
yeah u said it mane.......straight kadences......and shyt..throw sum kall-owts in there.
and Mississippi is perfect and i'm not just sayin dat bekuz dat's where i'm 4rm lol
i kan say sumthing nice abowt all of those drumsektions
Funk Factory:strong traditional sektion...HELLA FUNKY..have sum of the best stick flashes(founded Z phi Z) dey tenors are sum monstas indiviually
Funk Train:one of the best kept sekrets but starting 2 get lots of publicity. snares are chopping quints are good and cymbals have sum nice twirls......as 4 da tenors i have 2 c em.and i heard the basses was overflowing with krabs so i'll give it 2 em.....a real in your face drumsektion
War and Thunder: big tradition i grew up watching these boys...it ain't gone get no FUNKIER........hella funky but traditionally known 4 just being a funk drumsektion and accused of just playing simple five stroke rolls and flashes drove them to accelarate 2 a new level...and they have really stepped it up and have great new cadences with increased chopping skill while still keepin dat good ole WT funk.....still standing
The BOX:i'm sorry but i am trying to develop a like 4 des guys but i just don't watch them 4 sum reasons..but....i gots to give it to their quints or sixes whateva they are.....dey kan hang with the best if not the best. that's it bekuz funktrain running texas in my opinon
II KOLD KRANK: one of the younger sektions that began bekumin known publically when they battle funktrain in the parking lot in 2001....not being bias.the sektions history and tradition is bekum stronger...and they have always been a chopper drumsektion kind of a funky drumsektion but with a little corp feel 2 it......ova da years have also added 2 da kadence game is still raising the bar just like funktrain and WAr n Thunder.(they have the best tenor sektion and cymbals sektion in my opinion) black bladez and black ice
and all of these drumsektions are not 2 anyone's suprise known 4 GETTING DOWN ESPECIALLY KRANK FUNKTRAIN AND wAR N THUNDER LOL BUT BIG respect and props 2 all of em.
