I didn't realize this event still took place
Shout out to 35 McM & Carver for holding it down for N.O... i dont think any Jefferson band went to the event.
it's football highlights but 35 was there..
Pre-Katrina, This game was the reason. The Orleans Vs Jefferson Parish All Star football game was the Reason the Orleans Parish Schools All Star Band Existed
.1999 & 2000 Practices wouls began the first week of December at John Mac, Kennedy, Pan-Am or Walker depending on what was convenient at the time..., by the 3rd week we'd have performances such as the All Star Banquet, The All Star Parade (where all the bands march to the superdome) to the All star Game itself .. where we performed.
Originally, all the bands would battle for the first half of the game.. the all star band would take the field and during the 3rd and 4th quarter would play in the stands.
The week after we'd do a Saints game and then it's over...
.. by 2001 they cut the All-Star parade, 2002 only the all star band was there, 03 the bands were back but they battled on the field after the game. by 2004 ..The Only the All-Star band came to the game. it was held at Tad Gormely Stadium. and instead of Jefferson Parish being the opponent. it was N.O. East vs N.O. West..
.. Katrina Happened..
The Original Orleans Parish Schools All Star band was made up of all Section Leaders & Seniors of their bands. with New Orleans having 15 Public Schools at the time. the band was probably little over 300 at most at live performances.
The band didn't do many events. but it was enough to claim as one of the greatest entities in the history of N.O's bands.
Now days it's way different .. as for the game I thought they canceled it.. But it looks like the game has made a return.. Does that mean a possible return of the All-Star band? the only conflect would likely be School Systems & Funding.. .. Pre Katrina we had 1 Public School System. now their 4 different public school systems in N.O. ..It still can happen but the systems would probably prevent their schools from taking part in the band
Sad but it's a possible case.
with that said.
There have been many Mass band functions in the city. None are related to The School Systems, Some were just Directors trying to get their fingers wet for certain events, such as the Mass band in 2008 which included St. Aug. That wouldn't have happened pre-katrina, because The Orleans Parish School Board was responsable for The All Star band.
and Honorable Mention.the Brandon Franklin All Star band.. which was another GREAT milestone in the history of N.O bands.. because it was a culmiation of both High School and Alumni players from arround the city to pay their respects to a fellow bandsmen & Jazz musiction who had gotten killed.May 2010
Lastly
The N.O. Alumni All-Stars which originally started in 2009 as a way to comemorate the Pre-Katrina All Stars during a Middlle School BOTB .. as well as to have some Fun. the band flopped due to lack participation and time restraints. so in 2010 we were Succesful Why? The Misson was to Strike a Nerve in the Band coimmuniity. and The NOAASB Did just that....
With all the Hype gained after the GHASB BOTB 2010, Memphis Universal Alumni Mass Band decided to put up the Initial challenge,.. and HUMB was created specifically to come at N.O's heads. yall saw this all take place right before your very eyes. .. and with it. you now have New Events to look foward to,,
To close this out
Once again, Shout out to 35 McM & Carver for Holding it down. It would be Nice if next year ther can be a return of the NOPS all Star Band. .. That could possibally be the begining of NOPSASB vs NOAASB.. that would be great...
..Okay I'm Done..
