as a whole, SIAC bands are on a decline.... only ones that are on the up and up is Miles and Central State.... Albany is complacent.... Morehouse shows promise every now and again.... CAU has administration issues going on 8 years or so... Benedict never takes full advantage of what they have.... FV hasn't had a band director since 2010 .... Stillman is wishy washy, but very inconsistent.... Kentucky State has just gone sour.... Not sure if Paine will field a band this year since they are having their first year of SIAC football....
A LOT needs to be done for these programs to flourish like they used to

WHATS DO YOU ALL THINK ABOUT SIAC BANDS?

BENEDICT
ALBANY
TUSKEGEE
MOREHOUSE
CLARK ATLANTA
FVSU
STILLMAN
LANE

I really to hope to see a change this upcoming season with these bands... it used to be VERY competitive in the SIAC until a few years ago. ESPECIALLY with majority of the schools being in GA or close to it, which is a HUGE musical hub...
but majority of the students in GA are going to SCSU, Bama State, JSU, or FAMU...
Siac bands were very good back in the days, but directors changes hurt lots of us! One thing I notice in the siac that we didn't have alumni directors to take over our programs! The swac and meac has created lots of band directors that were able to take over the ranks when the greats retired! It's hard to love something you don't know. Miles is on a up rising because our President understands the Directors Vinson and he's willing to listen! Also, Alabama is an competitive state(asu,Aamu,Tu,SC, Concordia, and etc.) so we must be able to compete with all levels! The siac bands must enter more Botbs and high school exhibitions for recruit purposes! The Directors in the swac teaches their students that band is a SPORT, and this created big crowds, lots of exposure! People lots controversy so the art of WAR helps us to recruit also!

I been in this Business for along time Tbone suave!alumni plays a big part in our programs! We must fight for tradition! It's cool to have someone from another school on your staff to bring some other flavors , but the head needs to be alum ! I always ask my Mother why you watch soap Operas, and she always say she love the drama! So I ask the band world why we watch sports?? Think about it! When a man have a fight do he wait to be slapped first or he throw the first punch? All I'm saying is we as Directors must make our Sport a drama!
