What's good with ya ProfBrown, bruh?!

  • Hey what's going on Book? It's been a long time.  I am stretching out from retirement a bit, getting caught up on the innovations being made in the band world and hoping that as a community, the gap between bands will close so that a new age will sweep in...

  • I think it's closing but there will always be conflict among the masses .. the internet helped changed the game a bit.

  • The conflict piece is the issue though...people must realize that you can only be as strong as your weakest link.  For instance, if a certain band travels to another country and doesn't sounds as pristine as they should, it can bring the entire establishment down aka Inauguration.

I just say it's time to get together, differences aside and do some skill building, it's time to get the technique and skill level to a point where the music is forced to grow even more.  Some bands are consistent, and I'm not saying imitate them; however, there is a deficit. "Just because you drive a red honda and you added some rims, doesn't mean it's better than any ferrari." Surmise to say, that practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practices makes perfect.

Crank up, yeah that's the thing to do, but if you don't understand the basics, then you really truly are talking out of your neck.

This, cranking isn't musical, our band is better than yours nonsense...when your band can actually sit down in the stands and warm up properly the possibilities for black music will be endless, in the meantime this "conflict" needs to read some music in symphonic wind ensemble, and tune to a442/a444 just saying...

    Sound of the South Fanfare!
    Cranking up.
  • That's one thing I wish the Boom would do more, bring in more slow softer songs with a technical field in it. Make it appealing. It's like everything they have is loud.
  • Well you have to admit we all like some cranking.  Personally though, music has much more to offer with the use of dynamic contrast.  We have a multitude of ways to utilize our musical skillset and this is where schools like Troy University have an upper hand and shouldn't.

  • It's all about format in my opinion.  If by now you have not uncovered the dynamic profile of most bands, then hey you are league behind the winners.  For instance, you need to establish its dynamic profile to make use of its power in way which will make them stand out for example

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5jf3jVnZD8 ;(Dramatic use of WW with low brass at ppp, pp, p, MF, use or sFz crescendo into all in FFF, makes for a dynamic entry for your fans and hey, anyone can do this, with any song)

If your band doesn't have endurance, you can't friggin fake it and you can build it over time all the while performing in a league of your own.  Yes you should crank, but only when your band sounds good cranking, that is to say after your members can actually control their horns...smite you if you can squeeze out a ccc and can't play a chromatic scale before every practice.
