According to a statement from Rex, the popular and decorated student band asked to march in the parade ahead of another local high school marching band, Warren Easton.
Rex refused the band's request. St. Augustine -- known as the "Marching 100" -- marches on Mardi Gras day every year, alternating between Rex and Zulu. Warren Easton marches in Rex every year.
"We regret St Augustine's decision in this matter, and are indeed hopeful they will reconsider their position in the next few days," the Krewe of Rex statement said.
St. Augustine officials said they had no comment on the matter. A spokesman for Zulu said the club is not making a statement about whether St. Aug might march in that parade instead.
