Iv'e seen much better from both bands.... SWD had a square Famu-ish elementary sound. St. Aug displayed some good musicianship as far as showing range and arrangements. However, as a "band" unit it did not sound too hot at all. Now I know both bands are way more capable than what I just saw. I have seen both in person but this particular performance is not the standard for both schools.
OH yeah, but the ultimate HS BOTB was Houston MLK (Forgot the year) but elite bands in attendance
St. Augustine
Willowridge
Louisiana Leadership
Beaumont Central
All of these bands were near the top of their game at the time. It was one to remember.
I HAVE THAT ON TAPE IT WAS 2004!!! THAT SO FAR HAS ONE OF MY BEST HS BOTB i EVER BEEN TO.

St. Augustine versus Southwest DeKalb 2004
Guys I would consider this the heavyweight Championship for High School Bands in America. Who do you think was the best? check out both links:
St. A…
That BOTB was crunk and it was anotheone, can't rmember the year but it was in The Astrodome... Central/Smiley/Willowridge/Ozen/Dallas Townview were in attendance... The competition was heated and memorable. Ozen and Central was deep. I think that year Sam Houston and La Marque was busting heads also.
The good ole Days when W-Marion and Smiley went at it the MLK parade. Sigh

St.Aug was setting standards before you even knew what music was !!!
Before BOTBs,before the internet,before cable !!
You are in the minority thinking there is ANYTHING OVER-RATED ABOUT St.Aug.
ALL the praise & adulation was BOTH well earned and well deserved !!
when the fans of the ATLANTA FALCONS gave AUG a standing ovation in DEC.1976 @ the old Fulton County Stadium they obviously disagreed with you.
when St Aug was invited around the world in the '60s,'70s and '80s obviously they must have been something that everyone liked .
when the BEST Ga bands were in Atlanta, when Blacks were scarce in majority white Dekalb County.Aug was invited to and respected n Ga..
You are a kid..What do you REALLY KNOW ABOUT ST AUG ???
Did you ever see/hear them in the '50s thru the '90s ???
NONE OF THE NOLA BANDS WERE HYPE w/out substance !!
Dont base the greatness and quality plus longevity on RECENT EVENTS!!
If not for Hurricane Katrina,St Aug,Carver,Kennedy,McDonogh 35 and other NOLA bands would STILL FORMIDABLE !!!
