Ok so im on youtube and come across the St.Aug VS Kennedy vid and scroll down and this dude said"St. Aug original? Have you seen FAMU's marching style, way of arranging songs, band name, million and one color guards?I like the aug, but they are not original at all. All NO schools have someone's collegiate influence, but there still something just New Orleans about us that makes us different from those college programs."What yall think about this??

Tell Him Look up Hamptons Timeline and Compare it to William Fosters.. but its probably likely that he doesn't know who William Foster is by making such an ignorant statement.. their track records as educators of Music and drill all came about at the same time...but folks who dont know their history only argues the Dumbest points..
he was the FIRST high school band teacher/band director to embrace/COMBINE THE INNOVATIONS OF DR.FOSTER & HIS PEERS;while also concentrating on the 8-to-5 PRECISION DRILLING !
COLOR GUarDS/Flags--St Aug used the AMERICAN FLAG & JOSEPHITE FLAG with the SCHOOL BANNER for its first 30 years.. the flags and color guards numbered 5-8 for 30 years !!!!!!
THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH FAMU AT ALL !!!!!!!!!!!
HAMP marched 128 instruments for ALL OF THE 1970s !!!!!!!!
when people actually had to "AUDITION" and "WERE CUT" from the band, many wanted to be color guards bUT THERE WERE NO SPOTS AVAILABLE !!!
1 of the reasons to add additional flags was to ALLOW MORE KIDS TO MARCH !!
As for the flags,ST AUG "ALWAYS" paid respect to the Catholic League schools that "eventually" shared the district when AUG was the "ONLY BLACK HIGH SCHOOL PARTICIPATING IN THE ENTIRE FORMALLY SEGREGATED STATE ASSOCIATION" !!
For a reference point see the Catholic League flags in the gym...........
That was the impetus for marching the flags of the current & longtime Catholic League rivals(Rummel,Chalmette,DeLaSalle,Brother Martin,Holy Cross,Shaw,) !!!!!!!
Dr.Foster took over a very good, very solid music program @ FAMU.He then went on to implement over 50 marching band innovations that are now the norm FOR ALL MARCHING BANDS . that was in 1945 !
Hamp was of that era and attended 1 of the colleges,XAVIER UNIVERSITY OF La, heralded for its GREAT MUSIC PROGRAM !!
HAMP started in 1951/1952..
.At that time, literally hundreds of college music programs and marching bands had been in existence for decades !!
ST AUG ORIGINAL ???
YES BCUZ NOT A SINGLE HIGH SCHOOL BAND IN THE USA SUCCESSFULLY COMBINED THE STYLES AND MAINTAINED QUALITY DOING IT !!
DR FOSTER DID NOT USE "PATTERNS IN MOTION". HAMP DID .
DR ADRIAN WATKINS DID NOT ARRANGE/WRITE IN THE STYLE OF ANY COLLEGE ARRANGER.
EVERYONE ADMITS THAT WATKINS WAS A SUPERB high school arranger.
.HE WROTE THE SONGS THE WAY THEY WERE WRITTEN BY THE INVENTOR/WRITER/ARRANGER !!!
THERE WERE MULTIPLE BANDS NAMED/NICKNAMED "THE 100","THE MARCHING 100" .
HERE IS SOMETHING TO PONDER.
.Of all the marching bands nationwide, all marching styles, WHERE IS THERE COLOR GUARDS & FLAGS WITH A STYLE ANYWHERE SIMILAR TO NEW ORLEANS BANDS ??
NOT EVEN THE OTHER BANDS AROUND La had the same style !
THAT WAS SOMETHING DEVELOPED BY THE NOLA GREATS OVER YEARS !!
ADDITIONALLY MOST HIGH SCHOOL MAJORETTES ONLY TWIRL 1 BATON,WHILE NOLA "HAS USED 2 BATONS" for a very long time !
DR FOSTER AND MANY OF THE HBCU DIRECTORS SET OUT TO CREATE A STYLE AND BAND BETTER THAN THE "SO CALLED BEST" THAT REFUSED TO HIRE THEM !!
The Mid-West & Northern colleges/universities admitted and taught Blacks and allowed minorities to pursue the ARTS !
But they would not hire them !!
HAD XAVIER & DILLARD KEPT MARCHING BANDS NOT A SINGLE BAND N NOLA WOULD EVEN CONSIDER SU's STYLE/BRAND !!
FAMU was NOT ORIGINALLY NAMED NOR NICKNAMED "THE MARCHING 100 " !!!!!!!!!!!
It took Dr.Foster 5 years to march 100 instruments and become "THE MARCHING 100",which was in 1950 !!
There were bands marching 100 BEFORE FAMU lol !!
FAMU DID NOT add the FLAG CORP UNTIL 1971 !!!!!!!!!!!!
u might wanna see what colleges marched MULTIPLE FLAGS BEFORE FAMU ;BEFORE U SAY THAT SCHOOLS TOOK THAT FROM FAMU !!!
ST AUG DIDNT GET THEIR MARCHING STYLE FROM FAMU,SU,GSU OR ANY OTHER COLLEGE !
WATKINS' arranging style wasnt copied !
There were schools WITH MORE FLAGS,MORE COLOR GUARDS BEFORE FAMU !!
All schools have elements of influential programs.
AS DR GREGGS SAID,"" IM A PRECISION DRILL GENIUS,BUT THE FIRST PERSON THAT GOT ME INTERESTED IN DRILLING WAS EDWIN H HAMPTON OF ST AUGUSTINE HIGH SCHOOL IN NEW ORLEANS" !! "HAMP DID IT FIRST AND HAMP DID IT THE BEST" !!!!
Had GREGGS been allowed to speak at HAMPS" SERVICES he would have went more into detail !!
He recites that he was the band director @ Southern University Lab High School and used go down to New Orleans to watch HAMP & the St Aug Purple Knights Marching 100 !!!!
This WAS BEFORE 1969, BEFORE GREGGS RECEIVED THE SU JOB !!!!!!!!!!!!!
