Okay y'all, summer's over. How many of you actually got in the shed this summer? Share what you learned, tell us about your process. What things did you find were easier than others? What questions do you have? Do you have hints you can share with others? How many of you are ready to move on to the next level?
You need to be a member of bandhead.org to add comments!
This summer I increased my stamina. Joggin and working out. I was gonna wait until school starts to actually get back into my sight reading more, etc. Fitness takes a big part in band. I think more kids should think about that.
Basically worked on my scale theory and my tone for alto and tenor. Soprano i am still trying to get it down completely before I begin harder techniques. But my tone became a great factor for alto and tenor. I found my true tone on alto after 5 long years. also tried to stay in shape from ym diaphram but since i wont be in another marching band again because of my knee. But just started getting back into shape since i just started my first semester at University of Houston.
My tips though for those who are still in high school marching band, your tone, sight reading, and energy is your life!!! Missing just one will slow down your band. Energy is what kills alot of people throughout the summer. Sit on your ass and watch TV all day. Band camp comes around you slowing everything down. Band is YEAR-ROUND! You much practice year round!!!! Will post more later...got to do homework lol

congrats...now about that sight-reading. I got something for you to work on:
widen your visual perception to spot patterns instead of just singular notes and rhythm.
I learn more rudiments perfected them an got better overall as a Percusionist.
I learn how to write drum cadences and did a lot of outdoor activities relating to band.
