Reported by Reggie Benson, Times Sports Staff
The Southwestern Athletic Conference has invited Tennessee State to join the league, The Times has learned.
Tennessee State, currently a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, plays two or three SWAC schools annually, and league officials believe the Tigers would be a good fit.
TSU athletics director Teresa Phillips, reached earlier this week, elected not to comment on the issue, but said school officials have discussed conference affiliation in recent years.
"We had a study looking at several things, including conference affiliation, but we never had a conclusion to that," Phillips said. "That conversation is always somewhere. It's always on the tip of our tongue."

Man that would be off the chain
Supposedly, the SWAC would then become an 11-team conference, slash the SWAC title game, and the winner of the SWAC would play in the Legacy Bowl. If TNSU does make the move, it would definitely improve their fan attendance
Hmmm, I like it. There are certain benefits for everyone.
that would be wassup
They been talking about TSU joining the SWAC for years I doubt it if they do it but it would be great if they did. If i'm not mistaken wasn't TSU an orginial SWAC school?
TNSU was never in the SWAC they just used to play Grambling, SU and JSU on a yearly basis back in the day. It would be a good edition but the SWAC has invited TNSU before and they turned it down, i would be very shocked if they accepted it. If they joined, the SWAC Championship would be cancelled and the regular season champ would go to the Legacy Bowl. So that would nice.
Hmmm TnSU joinin would be nice
Yea Yea Yea. it sounds like a nice idea...but whose gonna travel all the way to Nashville (easily a 10 hour drive) to play TnSU.
And vice versa, GOOD or BAD year, TnSU has to travel a MINIMUM of 5 hours to play the NEAREST SWAC school. If you talkn about playing TSU or PVU, thats 16 hour trip. I dont think that would be good for SWAC attendance for any of the schools in the conference. TnSU will not like the travel schedule, therefore, they would never join the SWAC. And frankly, I dont think schools in the SWAC will let them take the SWAC championship game away from them

If the SWAC was so hung up on the SCG they wouldn't be inviting TNSU. If TNSU would accept to become a member of the SWAC, which is a BIG IF, the SCG would automatically be canceled.
