Honestly Louisiana Leadership has resources beyound belief but the administration there is twisted. It appears that they will get whoever they can to try to bring kids in so they can continue to keep their funding up. Mr. Charles was last there trying to get things up. Unfortunately, very few students showed up. So now Tiller has come which means some New Orleans kids will be mostly in attendance I would predict. The truth is not many students have the interest to be in band in BR any longer. The schools in BR are having a hard time sustaining band programs. Oh well good luck with that one...
I WILL BE THERE!!!!...oh and to bandfan06: Yea i was there when Mr. Charles was trying to restart things. The participation was very poor, i remeber pullin up 5 mins after the original start time and only a handfull or more would be there...but people said they were unaware of the date and time. But this time around we need to get the ball rolling. It's not that the students in b.r. dont have an interest in band anymore, they just cant find time for it anymore, thats the best way I could put it.

I see what U are saying, but I think Mr. Tiller can changed that If he has the position. I have witness his work from when he helped out with the NOASB, Lawless hs, and the 06-10 St. Aug marching band. He definitely can turn this program around.Im tired of LLI lookin like a mini SU anyway lol. GOODLUCK

The program is open to ALL students of Louisiana not just New Orleans. I do not believe we will have a large New Orleans contingency because we do not have the resources to bus the kids like in the past duting the Rose Bowl year. But New Orleans kids are welcomed to participate as well as other kids outside of the Baton Rouge area. As of now the minimum age for applicants is 12.
Personally I like the visual presence of LLI but I want the "overall" style to be unique. Not like SU and not like Saint Augustine High School. Two things I like to consider when I put programs together. 1. A copy is never going to be as valuable or appealing as the orginal. Within that "copy" category some people copy with Lexmark printers from Walmart and some people use FedEx Kinkos. My approach is we (LLI) are going to paint this thing from scratch using the tools we have. 2. If you are original, no one has anything to compare you to. They only can give an assessment of your program based on your progress or failure. Considering both of those aspects and with the resources the boundaries could be limitless. Only if the students believe in the system.
The recruitment factor: Let me be honest because there is no other way I can cut this. When I talked to Mr. Fields and he showed me the facilities and resources (Brand new uniforms, brand new instruments, brand new collegiate band room, brand new full length turf footbal field, 3 coach buses and an 18 wheeler), I wanted to join the band. I would have done anything to be a part of something like this. I think a lot of kids and adults alike are desensitized about what the institute brings to the table. If the kids are dedicated to LLI then the only possibilty for failure woudl be MY performance. And for those that know me, they know I am grinding my axe right now trying to get ready for this band.
:
It is good to hear that LLI will once again try to recruit and get the ball rolling. I am surprised I did not receive any call as to what was going on up there. Tiller I wish you all the best and support to starting up the band. Just a word of caution....each time the staff over there has not kept the directors informed on what was going on. In fact, Knighten, Dr. Greggs, and myself all never knew when the adminsitrators were putting someone else in the forefront to head the band. I always stressed professionalism and from my standpoint it was not there yet. I was very upsat when I tried to hold practice and the doors were not open and no one was up there to let us in. We had students driving 70 plus miles to participate just to be turned around.
All and still I wish Leadership all the best and if I can do anything to help don't hesitate to ask.
Yeah i mean look at all or most of the b.r. surrounding area schools. They All have a SU type style...and thats the goodness of it. So Its always gonna be SU style...its only right if LLI does have a that style...they pretty much always have had it since the started in like 2003...my 2 cents
