This video CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES why most high schools bands sound the way they do. Everything that could've went wrong with this song probably did go wrong. It's not all about being loud kids. Get some quality sound coming out of your horn, then worry about volume. Anyone care to elaborate?

That Darn SU effect ...
For everyone that has something negative to say about what's going on at John McDonogh Senior High School need to take some steps back, do some research, and find out exactly what's going on before you ridicule my school like that.
I agree with Quasi in this matter... they should not have come out this year. I'm an Alumni and didn't even know they had a band until a few weeks ago.
The thing is that John Mac now does not have many students interested in music anymore. Nor do many of the other schools. There are so many other things that the kids do now in after school programs and all since Katrina, that marching band isn't something of interest to them anymore. Especially when there's no steady program going on to make the kids interested.
I was going to Landry when I became interested in The Mac! Herb(St Aug's current director) was the band director and he had a formula to getting the band how it was when he was there.
Herb did a spring camp annually and invited students from every high school in New Orleans and surrounding areas... it was a beast! In fact, the homie is working on getting that footage posted on here along with all of The Mac's moments under the direction of Jeffery Herbert and Roderick Paulin. Getting back to the subject... at the end of summer camp I'm sure you know plenty of people transfered for the fall. Lol!
If we had more directors like Herb, The Rawlins, Hamp, Magruder, The Paulins, and Doc Harris we'd definitely have bands like we used to. Until then they'll continue to be interested in the other after school programs rather than band.
It does hurt to see our schools music programs in shambles, and not just John Mac. I don't think it's something to post on here to make fun of. They're high schools.
