Many people talks about louisiana and georgia rightfully so, but the state of ALABAMA I think deserves some credit as well.We are the only state that has 6 hbcu's with marching bands, and to all that don't know its AAMU,ASU,MILES,TUSKEGEE,STILLMAN,AND THE NEWEST ONE CONCORDIA.TWO OF WHICH ARE IN THE SWAC AND PERFORMING VERY WELL IN THAT CONFERENCE.Each school is going against each othere in recruiting. I honestly feel if we had two or three that those bands would almost be unstoppable

ALL I got to say is Big ups to ALL HBCUs in ALABAMA and these are only the ones with Marching Bands. Haters gonna Hate because they want to be like us. WE ALL HAVE DEEP HISTORY ENRICHED IN THE SOIL OF ALABAMA. We should support each other and not put each other down NO matter the STATE. because RT NOW music programs are hurting...heck this is what keeps kids out of trouble so SUPPORT
.. i said it like that because nobody responded to the thread... otherwise that was a direct answer.
I seriously believe yall should have a mass band That's too many bands to not have some kinda "union" among them... or at least a Alabama college battle or something.... i'm just sayin'.
North Carolina has Nine HBCU bands and we mainly hear about NCA&T
Georgia has Six...but is overshadowed by a FAMU and that's in Florida .
Look at Texas ..Texas College, Wiley, Jarvis-Christian College & Paul Quinn had bands.too. The only one still with a band is Texas College... but they're not part of the SWAC.. and people unfamiliar with them or are outside of their territory will not talk about them nor will care that they exist or have existed.
my point is .. Nobody Sleeps on Alabama, but out side of AAMU/ASU folks aren't gonna talk about what they arent familiar with. Miles got talked about because they had an out of the blue sound and growth spur that got them noticed. aside from that they only had a band since 97 and they had just gotten "on the map" in 2002 really. ... Unlike Miles, STILLMAN has their own style and IMO are finally a stable band that looks good, and sounds good. not really a powerhouse but they are okay.
when it comes to bands, I'm more familiar with the bands I'm around.to this day, i know many people who marched in Alabama bands, but i've never seen those bands live.. Haven't seen Alabama State live YET (and they came to N.O in 2003) but. I saw AAMU live. and they're Full of Pride I saw Tuskegee in Texas.2005.
otherwise yeah, they cant help but to go against each other in recruiting.. hs bands everywhere are smaller and aren't putting out the same number of talented musicians due to lack of interest
I'm from N.O. the fist time i heard of any band outside of Louisiana I was a Sophomore in High School that was 1999
...
If us GA Bands had FAMU's size(and strong Alumni base in GA, sounds weird, but its true) it would be easier to be recognized in GA, instead of having them look outside the state. GA college bands are pretty good though. Us (FVSU), Clark, Albany & Morehouse
