In 2010 I bought a canon vixia HD camera. I really don't want to spend money another a new camera at this point. So I want to enhance it.
I want to record better audio when it comes to recording marching bands. For those who don't have a professional cam, could adding a small external microphone help with audio?
On a side note, which video editing software is best to use? Right now I use pennicle.

man get the mic that was made for the hotshoe cam, and yes it's better.!.. to be honest all that sound is too strong for those mics but it still catches better than the cam itself.. i have the canon DM-100 mic which fits my cam
What type of camera do you have???
I have the Vixia HF-20 and the mic that's made for it is the DM-100 it works just fine
I have the HF R11. It seems none of Canon's mics are compatible with it. Or so they say! I'm going to try some things.
They have a wireless mic which I saw on utube which is really cool. But they say it isn't compatible with my cam. I think its a lie!
They say the Bose is a great brand of shotgun mics
