Westbury Does Well @ UIL

The Westbury HS Concert Band went to Katy and represented in a big way!!!! There were only 7 or 8 schools that participated from HISD, but they got some respect from those Katy schools for HISD!!!! On the website it said they played "Them Basses," "Two Irish Sketches," and "He's Gone Away." It also said they got a 1 1 2 on stage and a 1 2 2 in sight-reading!! That's pretty good because they don't give 'USis' NOOOOO breaks at UIL!!!!! 

So keep up the good work Westbury!!!! You doin the dang thang in marching band AND concert band!!!!!!

    Can never go wrong with Them Basses! but glad to see Westbury doing well. Will there be a clip of their stage performance?

    well to be honest westbury is a good band any way i exspected them do very well like they just did... as always... dont stop here keep going.. all the way to the top.. never stop being the best at what you do.....God Bless

    Unless a parent or student had a video camera there, I doubt if there is a video because they were the first group to play @ 9 in the morning. It was probably not very many people in the audience. But every band does get an audio recording so maybe they'll post that...

    WOW. A black school making anything better than all 3s is phenomenal at UIL because they are super critical of everything. Huge congrats to Westbury.

    WAAAAYYY BEYOND SUPER CRITICAL!!!! Most of those judges have NO IDEA what a band director at a school like an HISD school is like!!! No resources, No Administrative support, No Parental support...Hell sometimes No Student support!! Band directors at those other schools pass out the music, and most of the kids can already read it, but the ones that need more work will get it in their "Private Lesson" session they have set up during their band class. So yeah they don't work no where NEAR what a band director at one of.... "OUR".... schools has to do to make it sound decent!!!

    So Yeah...it is a big deal...

    Man way to go Westbury!! That's wat I'm tlkn bout. U guys hav always done great to me, keep up the good work and plz thank u guys director cuz if it hadn't been for him Westbury wouldn't b wher they r now! Keep up the good work...

    I was able to get the audio of their performance. Some intonation problems here and there, but overall I thought it was pretty good...

    Those clips are nice. Great blend. Woodwinds are really coming through.

    Now that Westbury has opened this door for the inner city HISD schools, Im sure we will all be expected to go in the next few years and succeed. Once again, Westbury Im proud of you guys. Despite the lack of ......well everything..... you proved that you hang with whoever. CONGRATS
