WHAT A GIRL SECTION LEADER??????????????????

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOUR SECTION LEADER WAS ONLY 5'4" AND A GIRL WITH THE SOFTEST VOICE YOU HAVE EVER HEARD? WOULD YOU LISTEN TO HER AS IF SHE WAS A GUY OR WOULD YOU JUST PAY HER NO MIND?

  • You would have to listen to her i mean the director chose her to run the section before anybody else and to ignore the section leader is definately disrespect..even though she might be soft spoken she still runnin the dang section..
  • there have been section leaders like that in colleges ..
  • i would never allow a girl to be better than me on my horn.and i know how that may sound but if i had to practice 24/7 i would.i feel the same way about guys but in my day there were very few,if any girls on tpet and i wasnt gonna let that 1 or 2 be better than me.
  • ....thats pretty chauvinistic wouldn't ya say....lol
if she could lead efficiently even with the soft spoken voice then by all means more power to ya...

  • I don't know about the soft voice part, but size and gender really don't matter. It's about leading and getting the job done.

The unfortunate reality is that showband is a masculine, physical activity. Females have been successful at it, but many choose not to take that step.

You can't simply say, "I'm a girl. Take it easy on me," and then expect everything to be ice cream and cake from there...

Music and drill still have to be learned, freshmen have to be taught, and upperclassmen have to be guided/controlled.

So called leaders with no spine will get ignored, male or female.
  • i know it sounds really bad but its just the competitiveness i've always had i would love to see a girl section leader in any early 90's or 80's southern band.now there are some very good female musicians but to say that 1 could be my section leader.not on my horn while im there.

  • I always give props to ladies that can handle a section of males.

But women are naturally messy... I wouldn't want one trying to run my section. Women always have problems and "expect" people to excuse their issues.
they break up with a b/f then its a crisis and they cant attend practice but if your late its a problem...
Their girl is crying then its time to inconvenience the entire section so they can tend to her drama...
It was funny because my old BD tried a female drum captain and put her over 16 ni99as in percussion, that didnt last past the first 2 days of band camp lol

And why is it that the not so attractive females always want to be the dang section leader? At least give the fellas something to day dream about why youre naggin about something.
  • LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! but back to the point, when i crabbed, my section leader was a female and also a drum major, and man she was a tough one, inspired me to be the tough ass i am as a section leader today lol

  • janea, its all about how you show yourself.
if your character shows you to be a leader, ppl will follow bcuz they know its in their best interest.
doesn't matter how small or meek you are.
in high school, i was 4feet, nine inches. freshman year-flute leader; sophmore year-flute leader; junior year-one of three females on drumline, senior year- tenor captain...
IT DON'T MATTER EXCEPT FOR HOW YOU REPRESENTING!
  • me personal, i would listen to her, b/c some females are betta leaders hen males... then in a long run i would try to date her, i love them independent bossy chicks
