What Happen To High Step Marching?

Whats going on with our High schools? Back in the day they would march. Bending there knees, toes pointing straight down! What happen to marching high with correct posture! 

At the picture: When I was in high school we did this through out the entire summer. We called it TONE TO THE TOE!

 

The band looks more uniform when every one is doing the same thing and giving 100%

    They have been watching too much you tube of college bands that dont march!

    I agree 50%....I blame the BD's too for not requiring their bands to do it. I'm from N.O. and there are a ridiculous amount of schools trying to imitate SU, but even with that, they still can't march worth shit. St. Aug is the only band we have that has ALWAYS marched their asses off even when they only had a handful of members in '06-'07.

    Most kids this generation are lazy. My BDs always preached high knee lift, we always practiced it but its all about the kids actually doing it. Me n my section always marched 90s, then I worked with the mellophone section, btone n tbone section always had knee lift. our weak areas were Trumpets, Snares, Tenors, Basses, Tubas, FLUTES and CLARINETS<---two of the laziest sections in any band....but not directed to anyone

     

    They have no pride if they dont march properly

    " Most kids" LOL Are'nt you one of em. J/K but yeah the kids dont put out the effort and time like WE use to. They jus wanna play in the band and not put in the work it takes to be in the band. The BD yells, scream, and holler at em all day, but without the "HAZING" its only so much you can do. And they talk back like they are adults too, and it makes me wanna SLAP te shit out of them. But I keep my cool and hand under control. Without the juniors and seniors takin LEADERSHIP the underclassmen feel they can do what they wanna and that aint right.Unless we (the adults) can put discipline back into the children, there is really nothin we can do.

    I feel ya but I was one of the leaders that took charge. (graduating Senior) but the leadership role as a student can only go so far on the high school level now. If they can not appreciate the art of marching band, why do they keep coming back??

    High Step Marching or true 8 to 5 does exist still.  Many students seem to have pride issues in doing the RIGHT thing when it comes to marching.  U can teach the concept right but with todays generation of students they are going to do what they want to do no matter how fair,firm, and consistent you are. Many students dont want to work hard to be the best, they want everything to be handed to them to be the best.  So to sum it up IMO its a pride thing but directors need to enforce and reinforce.
