"In advance of Tuesday night’s Future of the SWAC open discussion at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, we bring you three lengthy blogs posts today/tomorrow about three issues facing the conference (shrinking attendance, loss of players and JSU possibly leaving the conference). By the way, we bring you an even lengthier story in Tuesday’s Clarion-Ledger, detailing all of this stuff."

  • Wouldn't be a factor. The SWAC would still go on just like the SWAC would still go on if Grambling left. The SWAC was here before JSU or GSU was in it. Now if GSU and JSU left at the same time or JSU and SU left at the same time the conference would feel it. Notice the faces of the SWAC are GSU, SU and JSU. If all three left they might as well shut down the SWAC.
  • LAWD!!! Whew...this is sad. Glad I did my years. The SWAC needs to get its isht together. I wonder how much the enforcing of the "SWAC RULES" and putting a muzzle on its marching bands have helped contribute to the decline of attendance to the conference's games?! Someone should do a study on that.
  • No one is leaving the SWAC anytime soon, they can't. Where are they going to go? It takes finances to make a move and most HBCU's don't have the finances to do it at this point in time, ask FAMU. People just like talking a good talk and saying thing in articles to get people interested and shook up.
  • If JSU left the SWAC, then JSU leaves the SWAC, and life will go on.  JSU hasn't been the first to leave the SWAC, but the SWAC is doing just fine.  No ONE school's leaving the conference will have that much effect on the conference in general.  At least I don't see it.
  • You do know that JSU has been on a campaign since 2006 and reached the 35 million goal this past season...the check was given 2 the university during Homecoming

  • I bet yall remain in the SWAC. I will bet you. Where will JSU go the terrible OVC? lol Hell we have a nice endowment and haven't left yet. First facilities have to be upgraded etc. I hope one would try to move up in division, ask FAMU why they weren't successful. JSU is not going to spend 35 million all on sports. They would be a fool to do so how the economy is right now. lol

  • It was my understanding that the serious finances would come from moving from D-II to D-I. Jackson State is already D-IAA so if they moved to another D-IAA conference, it wouldnt be as pricey. Correct me if I am wrong.

  • We all, well i hope most of us knows that football is the king money maker of most conferences, JSU hasn't even dominated their own conference field wise. Attendance is only one aspect. I would rather winning than attendance any day. I can see if you were dominating in all sports but if you are not, you're only dreaming of moving. That's how i know it's all talk.
