SHYT I THINK IT WAZZ THE YEAR 2000 TO ME CUZ CARVER WAZ CUMIN HARD BUT THE MAC ,DA K, AND FORTIER WAZ THE BEST.....BANDS TODAY AINT SHYT LIKE BAKK IN DAH DAY.....08-09 2009-2010 (JOHN MAC D~MAJOR)
In the 90's I would say 91' - 97' and 2002 was a good year because Carver & Reed made it exciting agsin for bands in the city. But New Orleans best years were in the 80's point blank period....
ALL U DUDES AND CHICKS ARE OFF BY A FEW DECADES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
see the 1970s when the middle schools/junior highs did field shows for football games and used to deal with high schools for parade season...
See 1970s ED HAMPTON St Aug Marching 100 bands..
See the 1970s when HARRIS put Lawless Jr Hi on the map then left for the" NEW" McDonogh # 35 and created a monster.
See the 1970s when HARRIS appeared to march every student at Woodson Jr Hi and then was hired @ Kennedy to duplicate what he created Uptown.....
See the 1970s (late) when BRIMMER took over Fortier and had the band and style that everyone n the city admired...
See the 1970s when SOLOMON SPENCER had the Cohen Green Hornets marching and sounding good.....
See the 1970s when Carver Middle,Bell Jr Hi,Woodson Jr Hi,Phillips Jr Hi,Kohn Jr Hi,Fredricks Jr Hi,Colton Jr Hi ,Lawless Jr Hi and every other Jr Hi and even the public and Catholic elementary schools HAD MUSIC PROGRAMS AND VERY GOOD MARCHING BANDS !!!!!!
See the 1970s when: Dr Chacere @ Booker T Washington,Mrs Stamps @ Clark,Mrs Busch @ Carver plus Landry and John McDonogh had outstanding music programs and good marching bands !!!
See the 1970s,when St.Marys & Xavier Prep had good marching and concert bands !!
See the 1970s when HAMPS'MARCHING 100 BANDS @ ST AUG featured dozens of future professional musicians..
Greg Davis(Dirty Dozen),Patches Stewart(played on Labelle Album @ 16 years old),Leroy JAZZ Jones,Terrance Blanchard(Grammy winner) and Brain Murray all played trumpet @ AUG n the 1970s.Not to mention others like Victor Goines...
Although the great 1980s NOLA BANDS represented and performed at a high level;THE BAR WAS SET N THE 1970s !
EVERY SINGLE MUSIC TEACHER/BAND DIRECTOR THAT IS REVERED N NOLA,HAD FOOTPRINTS DURING THE 1970s !!!!!!!!!!
The decade started w/Meathead Richardson @ Bell,Harris @ Lawless,McGowan @ Kohn,Harris @ Wodson and u had others such as Joe Saulsbery,Herman Jones,Clyde Kerr Jr,Harold Battiste,Roger Dickson,the Torregano brothers,Guy Wood..............Plus the assistants @ AUG :Carl Blouin,Lawrence Winchester,,Ed,Allen....
ALL of these people were good musicians, gave music lessons and were good to great teachers...
Even n NOLA schools today, there are band directors that have links to teachers/musicians/band directors from the 1970s !!
When I first joined New Orleans ran this site. Bands like St.Aug, G.W Carver,#35, John Mac, Reed, just to name a few, that was 2003, so imma say fall 02 to parade season 03.

WHAT YEAR WAZ NEW ORLEANS BANDS AT ITZ BEST????
WAT YEAR BETWEEN 1998-2005......AND WHICH BANDS WAZ THE BEST OUT OF....:DA K, JOHN MAC, REED ,FORTIER, AND THE REST???
All era's were good pre-Katrina or maybe just until 2003
I must say the best era in my opinion had to be between 95-2001 because you really couldn't sleep on any school. Almost every High School was a beast esp. in District 9-5A during that era. During that time if you were by any school you would get crank on. Oh yeah trophy parades were serious too.
80's were a good era too for High School but there were like a few high school running things like St. Aug, Kennedy, 35 Fortier and sometimes John MC
I will say the 80's-the mid 90's for middle/junior high school. All school were producing major talent.
Their was a System in place up until about 1996 when all those directors started retiring. and im talking about in middle school too.
Now you have a broken system thats being repaired .. Slowly..
Honestly this is discussed week after week. we can't FIX i by talking about it t but we sure do play a roll in the advancement of the young band members

between 98-05, tha best years (I can't choose 1) was 00-01, 01-02, 02-03 (my 8th, 9th, and 10th grade years).
Tha best bands during that time was:
St. Aug
Every year up to Katrina except 98-99
Kennedy
98-99, 99-00, 00-01, 01-02, 02-03, 03-04 (football season)
Reed
99-00, 00-01, 01-02, 02-03 (had A LOT of bad days that year, but they was still cold)
Carver
99 up to Katrina (they disapointed me sometimes in 04-05 tho)
35
99-00, 00-01, 04-05 (football season)
Fortier
03-04
Abe
every year until 01-02
Walker
03-04, 04-05
Clark
00-01, most of 01-02
McMain
99-02 (was never a top 5 band, but they was like equal 2 what Karr is in New Orleans now with a lil less power)
If I didn't put yo band or a certain year 4 yo band up here I didn't 4get u, yall was just sad 2 me (except Landry and Warren Easton both in 04-05),
