I know this is off topic but i want to know why arent many of our hbcus football or baseball any competition for any of the other schools that competes in tournaments like the rose bowl or ncaa chapionship.and i know it has nothing do with money, because i know school that has no money and still kilin.

exposure its a vicious cycle....the schools games aren't televised wich means less exposure for top recruits wich means a lower caliber of play wich means less exposure for top recruits wich means lower caliber play wich means less exposure...seriously....also the swac is not a bcs conference wich was discussed on this site about a week ago.
its alot of stuff..1st our HBCUs have to get some good recruiters who will let these kids know that playing ball for a HBCU is just as good as playing at a Big 10 or SEC school. hell the greatest WR, RB and D-Linemen in NFL history went to HBCUs. then the alumni of our schools have to start giving back more to improve the stadiums and training facilities. i have a homeboy at Bama State who showed me around campus and their "football complex" was one small ass trailer. honestly if i played football and saw that, i wouldnt want to play there cause it sends off the message that the school is cheap.
i think all of us need to start taking little kids in our families to HBCU games to show how much pride HBCU fans have. ESPN need to start showing our games on NATIONAL tv too instead of ESPNU
You answered one of your own questions. Money! The other two are coaching and facilities! GSU doen't have a problem with name recognition! We are more popular than a lot of the PWC's!
I get what all of you all are saying and for the longest i thought it was the coaches fault and i understand that alot of colleges even most pwis cannot afford to compete with these schools with almost a billion dollars in there pockets. i just do not understand why we are not getting the respect we deserve. half of our hbcus can teach circles around these bigger schools who are televised. but i guess until we get more respect as instututuions of higher learning then we wont be able to be the best we can. Then again the main importance of hbcus is to educate and in a way we are the best.
Oh in baseball you have a lot of HBCU's that kicks a lot of PWC's asses. My school (Bethune-Cookman) for instance beats a lot of top 10 schools in that nation. We somewhat wont last long in the tourney expect when certain HBCU schools won a regional in the past but as mentioned by recent post it all about the amenities an institution has to offer. Better facilities will always win over the top athletes but it is the hungrier athletes who attend HBCU's that always brings that funk to any professional sport out here.
Southern and BCU have very solid baseball programs. Southern has won a few NCAA tournament baseball games, and we have had several MLB draft picks. With our full alottment of scholarships back, a new pitching coach, and plans for a new baseball fieldhouse, I think Southern could be moving in the direction towards winning a regional. Southern led eventual national champ, LSU, 2-1 late in the 7th inning before pitching depth bit us. They also had Minnesota beat before pitching depth and few errors lost the game. Just wait, I think SU will be the first HBCU to win a regional.
We have solid basketball facilities, our coach is just sad and doesn't attempt to recruit the local players to generate more interest in the program. Baton Rouge is like the basketball capital for high schools in Louisiana.
We now have the best on-campus football stadium in the SWAC with the recent renovations to Mumford, we have solid talent, we just need to change our coaching staff. We need some energy in the program that knows how to properly use Southern's athletic revenue and resources to its full potential. We should be crushing the other FCS programs, but the coaching staff is what is holding the team back.
Our problem isn't funding, it is hiring the right people to move our programs foward. SU needs to keep the women's basketball coach, baseball coach, softball coach, tennis coach, and bowling coach. Everyone else should be placed on notice.

what's wrong with our hbcus
I know this is off topic but i want to know why arent many of our hbcus football or baseball any competition for any of the other schools that compet…
didnt SU have the number 1 pick in the entire MLB draft a while back? i think his name Ricky Weeks..
then yall got Fred Lewis who play for the Giants. SU's baseball program is top notch.
i also think the SWAC front office needs to let the conference champ compete in the FCS playoffs.i dont care if the team gets eliminated early, it's still exposure to some recruits.
