Man we been saying that for years. It really sad that only the minority schools are the ones who band programs are cut. I know I have one feeder that's producing while the other is dead. It makes a huge difference. The bad thing is that only half of the freshmen every year want tp participate in band. So seeing wasted potential really hurts
They only do it to US...There are no other main line high schools that i have ever heard of not having a band or not caring about the band like some places in HISD...Alot of it has to do with most of the district being showstyle, and they don't like that...When Westside and Chavez first opened they were , more or less, showstyle and they didn't like that. Furr could have been Sam Houston before there was a Sam Houston band, but the principal then (and now) cannot show her friends in the suburbs and the country a showstyle band...it would be very disturbing for her and her friends...Now they pushing these schools to do UIL and not placing the right people in the middle schools...There is no communication between the middle school and high school directors...alot of these middle school directors are just sitting on they ass collecting a check...I say if they not doing anything, no matter WHAT style they do, get rid of them...But unfortunately you got some pricipals who want those lazy mofos there....Real talk every band in HISD is suppose to to marching at least 100...even Scarborough...But the only schools that are marching that many are the corpstyle schools
This stuff doesnt just happen overnight. If no parents [the taxpayers/interest] are at the school board meetings when these proposed cuts are snuck on to the agenda by school administration then the board assumes theres no opposition. Its too late to cry after the programs are cut.
*sidebar* HISD will only pay / force parents to be involved where it benefits HISD.
This happened because we don't have a band director that is properly trained and passionate about teaching.

When you have a feeder and when you don't have a feeder. Unless we get the Middle schools back on t…
Directors and Band Lovers we have a serious problem with out food you can't eat. with out Middle schools we won't have highschool bands.
Middle and high school bands should have 10% of the school population, if the recruiting is happening before the kids make their transition. The earlier, the better...before kids get older and set in their ways and preferences.
If that doesn't happen, you'll have what I'm dealing with now...having to start 30 9th graders to try and make up for what didn't happen in middle school.
And thats when you remind him / her whos paying their salary... Parents at my old HS axed 2 teachers in one year. Make a stink, have some strong arguments and head to the board.
