Where are the Marches?

After looking at a JSU clip posted by CBS news on youtube, it has over 500,000 views by the way, it only showed things for people to criticize.

We are so quick to run home and upload clips of nothing but show tunes. Where are our marches, jazz concerts, and other ensembles in regard to videos on youtube? The number of them pale in comparison to the 20,000 views of neck from SU.

Why don't we who tape this bands and run marching sites take into consideration posting the marches we play at fball games, our warmups, and ensembles during the winter and upload them so the world can see we are more than that. Not just "Show Tunes"

    You know I used to ask myself the same questions. There were clips last spring on here of our (JSU) jazz ensemble and I THINK our symphonic band. As far as the marches are concerned, we keep them in HEAVY rotation but I guess that aspect of band is not exciting to people anymore. There have been games recorded where our marches were completely cut out (JSU vs su 07 for example). I know for a FACT if we bring marches to the light all these "BEST BAND" debates would die out. REAL QUICK. Alot of bands would not have anything to compete with/post. LMAO. LOVE THE BOOM!!

    Supply and Demand....
    Most people are more interested in show tunes than marches. I think if a overwhelming amount of users wanted to see marches they would be up there. The question shouldn't be why marching sport is supplying what the people want the question should be why do the people only want to see show tunes?

    Antonio boy you got some good points. I'm getting tired of seeing comparison vids of the same rap songs!! Can we get some comparison vids of different versions of "purple carnival," "Stars and Stripes," "king cotton," etc.?? I think TOO much would get EXPOSED behind videos like that. lol. All of a sudden when these type of arrangments get put infront bands they b!tch up. As far as the future musicians are concerned, getting them involved in marches would help them out WAY MORE than cranking the same notes/rythms over and over in these rap tunes. Then you also have to take into consideration the time it takes to PLAY a march. Some college bd's might not have the time, or patience, to teach that type of stuff. I know my freshmen year doc crammed the marches down our throat. You were not about to touch "Get Ready" until you have at least covered the first 4 marches in the line up. If every school had that type of attitude toward marches, there might could be comparison vids of "barnum and bailey" and "rolling thunder."

    Marches are "boring" and "lame" and "you don't play that at a football game"...ya'll know that.

    I think we spend too much time asking this question, when this "problem" is basic math compared to the other algebraic problems bands have. Esp, when the answer is right infront of you.

    When you can't see the forrest for the trees-- and, make no moves to change your viewing angle...of course, you won't know why more marches aren't posted.

    good topic. I cant tell you home many countless games ive been too from high school through college where one band would play something like Canzon or Purple Carnival and cleary the other band would play some show tune cause they had nothing to come at them with.

    I liken it to that scence from Drumline where ATL A&T played Flight and MBC came back with a show tune.

    LOL at Rattler loling @ everybody else. Now you know we (JSU) always beat our chest and boast about slaughtering the comp with our marches. Sad part is I think when this high schooler makes it to su he is gonna regret it..
