It is called a rivalry. In a rivalry, the two schools absolutely hate each other. Go to a Florida-Florida State, Alabama-Auburn, Michigan-Ohio State. Texas-Oklahoma game, and you will see how much those schools absolutely despise each other. Southern and Jackson State are no different.
Its interesting that band wise, two schools with different styles have built up the single biggest game through the years. If they game is in Jackson they can fill that whole stadium with over 55,000 people most of whom come to see the boom and the jukebox.
Maybe a lot of people preferred these two schools for so long that eventually it lead to a big band rivalry.

Well coming from my dad who marched in the Jukebox, he said the SU vs JSU rivalry didn't really get intense until people that graduated from SU were hired to JSU's band staff. He said before that happened, the SU vs JSU thing was just a normal game. So that's what intensified it.

Where did it start and why? Because they seem to really hate each other, lol every video it seems to be arguing between or about the two
